CHARLES HEALTH SYSTEM JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Medical Assistant, Pre-certified REPORTS TO POSITION: Clinic Supervisor DEPARTMENT: SCMG DATE LAST REVIEWED: January 2022 OUR VISION: Creating America's healthiest community, together OUR MISSION: In the spirit of love and compassion, better health, better care, better value OUR VALUES: Accountability, Caring and Teamwork DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant, Pre-certified position is assimilated throughout St. Charles Medical Group encompassing practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties including family care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, immediate/urgent care, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery, cancer care, behavioral health, and sleep medicine. Our MAs collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff to assure we are providing our community with comprehensive and compassionate health care. POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Supervisor (MA or RN) the Medical Assistant, Pre-certified at St. Charles Health System is responsible for daily patient flow for each respective physician for whom they work. They will use clinical knowledge to gather information from which designated staff can make appropriate patient health assessments and to anticipate provider's needs as they relate to the patients' medical care. This position does not manage any other caregivers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor: Escorts patients to exam rooms and preps for provider assessment. Records and maintains patient's medical data in patient's medical chart. Assists provider with responding to messages from patients and/or other medical professionals and institutions. Performs a variety of provider-requested ancillary and/or surgical patient procedures. (This excludes the administration of IV medication.) Maintains equipment, instruments supply inventory levels. Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects. Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests. Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate. May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned. EDUCATION: Required: High school diploma or GED. Completion of a medical assistant program from an accredited institution or required experience as outlined below with the ability to test for certification within 12 months of hire. Preferred: N/A LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Required: Must obtain appropriate certification from one of the following within 12 months of hire to ensure continued employment; The American Medical Technology Association (AMT), The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), The National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification, National Healthcareer Association (NHA). AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. Preferred: N/A EXPERIENCE: Required: At least two (2) of the last five (5) years of full-time employment in a clinical setting as a Medical Assistant. Preferred: Basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures. Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems. Basic knowledge of medical office documentation standards. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level. Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds. The use and operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers. Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level. Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs. Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle. Exposure to Elemental Factors Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution.
