General Summary:

Responsible for performing a variety of duties that may be both clinical and administrative tasks. This includes assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Expected to provide information to patients so that they benefit from the clinical services.

Essential Functions:

  • Check schedules, organize patient flow, room patients.
  • Collect patient history including medications and reason for visit, chart in EMR, relay information
  • Check vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature), measure height and weight, take EKGs
  • Set up equipment, maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, order supplies, keep exam rooms stocked
  • Assist with minor procedures, handle specimens, do CLIA waived tests
  • Send and receive medical records, obtain Lab & Test Results
  • Ensure patient results are reviewed by physician in a timely manner, provide appropriate followup as directed
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines
  • Other duties as necessary

Position Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Medical Assistant Diploma from accredited institution or community college
  • Appropriate Certifications in Medical Assisting, EKGs and Phlebotomy
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Computer skills including knowledge of EMRs

Experience:

  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility or provider's office
  • And/or documented evidence of externship in a medical office
  • EKGs, vital signs, venipuncture experience

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) order that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all covered personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.” Upon receipt of a conditional job offer, candidates who are not already vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol. Physical Demands:

Medical Assistants may spend a great deal of their professional day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. It is reasonable to anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds in any given day. Bending or twisting of the body may also be a frequent occurrence.
