UW Medicine has multiple full/part time opportunities for TEMPORARY MEDICAL ASSISTANTS to join our COVID vaccination clinics! The Medical Assistant will play a critical role in our COVID response strategy, supporting vaccination efforts for our employees, our patients, and our local community at large.

SCHEDULE:
This posting is representative of multiple full time/part time temporary positions, anticipated to run for at least 6 months. Shift hours will vary by site, but will include day shift, evening shift, and weekend shift opportunities.

The Medical Assistant will be assigned to a vaccination clinic at one of the following sites:

  • Harborview Medical Center

  • UW Medical Center-Montlake


  • Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant (MA) will assist the medical and nursing staff by performing delegated tasks that involve direct patient care; technical procedures or monitoring that may be invasive and require skills validations; transportation of patients, supplies and specimens; ordering and stocking of supplies; and maintenance of special equipment, including sterile equipment and set-ups. The MA role may also include coordinating the clerical activities and supporting the front desk activities for patient care in the clinic.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrate comfort in working and caring for COVID-positive patients

  • Demonstrate comfort in wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for full shift to include mask/goggles/gown/gloves

  • Demonstrate ability to perform all duties outside regardless of weather

  • Demonstrate comfort in working with extremely diverse populations

  • Demonstrate comfort with working with pediatric patients to include performing nasal swab for COVID testing

  • Demonstrate flexibility in accepting assigned role at each testing facility to facilitate smooth patient flow while ensuring safe care

  • Demonstrate ability to work with different groups of teams on a daily basis

  • Demonstrate ability to be a team player and to function independently

  • Demonstrate and maintain clinical skill competence that fall within MA scope of practice such as maintaining patient flow at all locations covering; check in patients utilizing two identification processes; perform nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs appropriately after initial training for patients sitting in transportation vehicles (car/trucks) or in chairs set up at testing site; comfort with donning/doffing PPE.


  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board; OR equivalent education/experience.


  • ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Vaccination/immunization experience.


  • Legal Requirement:
    Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.
