POSITION TITLE: Medical Assistant DEPARTMENT: Grand River Health Specialty Clinic REPORTS TO: Specialty Clinic Manger The Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires employers in the state of Colorado to disclose the following information. Hourly (salary) minimum $18.50, hourly (salary) maximum $24.00. The base hourly (salary) range above represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual hourly (salary) rates may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to: experience, education, and training. Pay is just one component to prospective employees’ compensation package. Compensation may also include shift differentials. JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. BASIC FUNCTION: Provides direct professional medical care to patients. Assesses needs, provides laboratory procedures as appropriate, ensures proper follow up care, and supports clinic team in completion of tasks. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients’ medical record. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Assisting in all aspects of medical practice under the supervision of a medical provider. Assessing needs of patients, checking vital signs, providing laboratory procedures as appropriate and ensuring proper follow-up care. Administering immunizations. Rooming patients and setting up procedures for providers. Participating in frequent interaction with patients regarding all levels of concerns and questions. Keeping up-to-date on public health policies and procedures. Performing as a positive member of a clinic team. Executing duties with a willingness to help others who are in need. Performing other duties as required or assigned. Observing and practicing the policies and procedures of Grand River Clinics and Grand River Hospital District. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant preferred. Must have current BLS card within 3 months of initial employment and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment. Experience: Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of dictation equipment and computer programs preferred, including word-processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge and proper use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofing, document formatting and basic math skills preferred. Skills needed to effectively perform medical assisting duties, such as immunizations, checking vitals, administering basic laboratory tests, communicating with patients, etc. Familiarity with office equipment preferred: copier, multi-line phones, fax machine, etc. Familiarity with clinic practice management systems and electronic health records preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written communication. Interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully as a member of a team required. Must be able to demonstrate accuracy in processing detailed information. Must demonstrate effective problem solving abilities and be able to handle multiple tasks with interruptions. Ability to develop positive relationships with staff members and providers. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire in Allscripts Touchworks, Allscripts PM, Allscripts Carescripts, PACS, Muse, QHN, Pyxis, CIIS, Krames, Galactica, CQS, Kase HealthStream, Pediavision, Puretone Hearing and Picture Hearing Screening. GENERAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS: Has knowledge of and adheres to all compliance regulations, policies and procedures. Completes annual compliance, privacy, and security training. Responsible for complying with all federal, state and local rules and regulations. Complies with the all Grand River Hospital District policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct and the Compliance and Ethics Program requirements. Reports any observation of fraud, waste, abuse, and/or privacy violations. Reports any conflict of interest or relationship immediately. HEALTH INFORMATION PORTABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT (HIPAA): Ensures and adheres to strict confidentiality when handling patient information, according to the HIPAA Privacy Act and hospital policy and procedure regarding confidentiality. Complies with all hospital information security practices. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to daily exposure and risk of blood borne pathogens, bacteria, toxic substances, body fluids, communicable diseases, equipment noise and occasionally the combative patient. Other conditions may exist which are common to a clinical health care setting.
