GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:To maintain a clinical environment that is clean, efficient, and compliant with all standards of care; assisting physicians in the delivery of quality care in a professional and courteous manner. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Open all examination rooms upon arrival to office. This includes the following:
  • Checking and restocking supplies.
  • Preparing all equipment for the day.
  • Checking all trash containers for proper bagging.
  • Checking schedule for any additional needs.
  • Check the assignment schedule and review physician patient list for any special needs, the evening prior and upon arrival to the office.
  • Escort patient to the examination rooms, obtain and document the following:
  • “Chief Complaint”
  • Update the medical record per policy
  • Vital signs
  • Preparation of patient for specific appointment type
  • Urine specimen and/or blood work as necessary
  • Allergy notation
  • Maintain appropriate number of patients in examination rooms at all times for the Physician.
  • Review patient’s medical record prior to admitting patient into the exam area. Check the medical record for the inclusion of the following:*
  • Current laboratory results
  • Current X-ray reports
  • Any and all other current reports
  • Correct address and telephone number
  • Draw blood work as ordered by the physician.*
  • Process blood work for delivery to the laboratory.
  • Perform urinalysis as directed by physician.
  • Perform procedures as assigned.
  • Maintain communication with the patient during their stay in the exam room, keeping them informed of the physician’s schedule.
  • Clean equipment in accordance with the designed procedure.
  • Clean room after each patient use and restock as necessary.
  • Clean patient exam rooms at the end of the day, clean all equipment and prepare for the next day, clean and restock clinical workstations and laboratory.
  • Give IM injections as ordered by physician after completing on the job training and passing skills check list by Office Manager.
  • Instill bladder medications as directed by physician after completing on the job training and assessing skills check list by Office Manager. Medical Assistants must pass periodic skills check by Office Manager.
  • Communicate patients' needs and/or problems to physician and resolve accordingly.
  • Contact pharmacy for prescription refills or newly ordered medications per physician.
  • Coordinate appointments for patients by prioritizing needs.
  • Counsel and educate patients regarding all issues and/or problems, i.e. Medications, procedures, treatments, etc., as per physician.
  • Document all conversations and actions in patient's medical record.
  • Maintain patient safety and confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain communication with front desk regarding physician schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • 1-2 years previous clinical experience

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:High School Graduate/GEDMedical Assistant Certification EQUIPMENT OPERATED:Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Able to use a stethoscope and respond to verbal questions.
  • Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections.
  • Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
