Summary:
The Medical Assistant - MA, under the supervision of the Office Manager, will be responsible for performing a variety of medical assistant duties to provide excellent patient care to a range of medical needs in a multi-specialty clinic setting.
Primary Responsibilities:
Patient Scheduling
- Schedule appointments and procedures
- Manage the clinic schedule for multiple physicians and practices
- Schedule hospital admissions
- Schedule referrals as indicated by the physician and fax records as indicated.
- Print copy of daily schedule
- Record Keeping
- Scan and attach information to patients’ accounts
- Document all patient interactions is patient’s chart
- Always make a telephone encounter and add a time stamp
Patient Care
- Greet patients at front desk
- Take vital signs, patient weight, and date of birth
- Escort patients to exam room and to the front during check-out
- Update medication list, allergies, and pharmacy for each visit
- List in patient chart any particular concerns or problems they are experiencing
- Draw blood
- Assist physician
- Clean exam rooms and keep it stocked
- Answer telephone calls from patients, physicians and other facilities
- Call patients with physician responses to questions
- Review labs a minimum of three (3) times a day
- Call patients with test results, scheduled tests, procedures, or hospitalizations
- Make copies of lab results for patients to keep and mail out when requested
- Check jellybeans everyday
- Preauthorization on specialty medications
- Complete lab requisitions
- Enter all new patient packet information into ECW
- Ensure patient has current labs. manually inputs into ECW if labs are from another physician
- Creates a STAT lab order, if required
- Sends new or refill medications to pharmacy
- Sets up direct hospital admission, if ordered
Medications
- Strong background working with prescription medications
- Obtain UA testing for controlled substance medications
- ESCRIBE pharmacy to order new prescription medications or fax if not equipped with eprescribe.
- Check with patient to verify if 30 days or 90 days is needed and at which pharmacy
- Refill patient prescriptions as directed by the physician
- Obtain authorization from physician to refill restricted medications
- Phone patient to advise them of new medications ordered by physician
Physician Assisting
- Obtain most current lab values with eGFR and procedure test results for physician to review
- Retrieve reports from hospitals and other physicians
- Give telephone messages, mail, and documents for physician to sign at each clinic
- Page physicians as necessary
- Other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor
Skills / Requirements:
- Intermediate skills on Windows based operating system and Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiar with Medical Manager software- E-Clinical Works (ECW)10 keyTyping – minimum of 50 wpm
- Knowledge of all business machines including fax, copier, and printers.

Required experience:
- Technical/Professional -MA Certificate: 1 year
- License/Certification Medical Asst.: 1 year
