SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, perform all required engineering assignments using engineering design principles and experience contributing to reliable and cost effective product. The assignments have clear and specific objectives. The tasks require the application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making adaptations and modifications of existing product. Participates in activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of all products and systems
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create bill of materials, item masters, and required drawings for the assembly and fabrication of machines.
Act as technical liaison between machine assembly and engineering departments. Create standards and procedures for day to day activity.

Create technical drawings and drawing changes.

Participate in basic mechanical design analysis. Select suitable materials, processes, and components based on sound design criteria.

Participate in machine concept design, based on customer specification. Integrates new concepts, ideas, and technologies while maintaining sound and reliable aspects of previously designed product.

Prepare partial/complete product design, which is often complex, including detailed layouts and assembly drawings for fabrication of product using ease of assembly principles, tolerance stack up, parts fit and finish.

Evaluate Engineering Change Requests for modification of products.

Participate in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.

Provides assembly, test, and installation support for the production and service departments department.

Other duties as required by the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree in either mechanical design, mechanical drafting, or mechanical engineering. Additional work experience in the field preferred.
Ability to work with concepts such as:

  • Fundamentals of mechanical engineering principles.

  • Principles of low cost design and ease of manufacture and assembly.

  • Basic analysis of designs, components and subsystems for fit and finish for use, through the proper application of technical theory.

  • Use appropriate design techniques.

  • Materials properties to identify/select parts tolerance, finish and fitness for use.

  • Understand pertinent electrical and/or mechanical design and drafting standards, and drafting practices as applicable.

  • Understand pertinent US and European Standards and Codes, as applicable.

  • Electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic or mechanical schematics or diagrams as needed.

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and assembly practices at KAR.

  • Experienced in 2-D and/or 3-D CAD as required.


  • Proficient in MSOffice software suite.
