Meat Department Manager

Major duties
- Orders all meat products.
- Receives and checks all meat deliveries upon arrival to see that all merchandise is in good condition and that the correct quantities and weights are received.
- Sees that all products is properly prepared (cutting and trim), handled and merchandised.
- Is responsible for signage and pricing, gross profit, and inventory control.
- Sees that all merchandise is rotated according to code dating policy.
- Keeps meat department fixtures, equipment and area clean, sanitized and free from accident hazards at all times.
- Handles all store property and equipment in such a manner as to secure maximum use.
- Bookkeeping, including all paperwork and record keeping.
- Scheduling and labor control standards.
- Properly trains personnel assigned to the meat department.
- Perform freshness checks and recondition product.
- Determines Manager’s Specials consistent with quality and quantity sells items at minimum loss. Keeps the Store Director informed of all markdowns and losses.
- Maintains courteous and friendly customer relations.
- Maintains a high level of product knowledge and merchandising ability to accomplish the meat department goals.
- Inventory control; quarterly physical inventory
Minor duties:
- Plans special promotions and displays.
- Operate saws, cubers, slicers, scales, grinders, mechanical price marking devices, and use knives and safety cutters.
- Provides assistance to customers and employees.
- Prepare, weigh, package, and price products to maximize gross profit, stock merchandise and rotate product.
- Maintain sales and other written records.
- Perform sweeping, cleaning, and mopping functions.
- Operate telephones and intercoms and practice proper telephone etiquette.
- Follows and implements all company policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Relationships: Reports to Store Director. Works with the company department supervisor. Supervises meat cutters, meat wrappers, and service counter clerks.
Qualifications:
- Be a self-starter.
- Read and write.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Give and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Provide verbal and physical assistance to the customers.
- Lift and stack up to 100 pounds.
- Pull or push wheeled vehicles weighing up to 1,000 pounds.
- Possess good inter-personal skills, is mature, and a proven leader.
- Reach and stock product up to 6 ft. high.
- Must possess basic computer skills
