AN OVERVIEW:The Materials Coordinator has responsibility for the consistent and even flow of construction and activity materials used in Kaleidoscope’s studio. Kaleidoscope’s success is in great part evaluated by the activities and art materials provided to the children who participate and by Kaleidoscope’s unique appearance. If there were to be a gap or inadequacy in materials availability or quality, Kaleidoscope and Hallmark’s image would suffer significantly. The Materials Coordinator works with other staff members to evaluate which projects need to be die-cut on the press. It is then their responsibility to select the proper paper, cut that paper to size, prepare the die-cut press for production, and then operate the press to cut the shapes. Like all Kaleidoscope/HVC employees, the Materials Coordinator is actively engaged with peers in welcoming guests and maintaining the attractions, including Saturday and holiday work. This position reports to the Kaleidoscope Experience Supervisor.
THIS POSITION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Receiving materials from the shipping dock and directing that material to the appropriate path, which may include: the Kaleidoscope warehouse, the Kaleidoscope studio, the paper cutter, the die-cut press, recycle, discard or to another agency.
  • Providing material to the Kaleidoscope volunteers to complete the handwork necessary to prepare for children to use in the studio.
  • Working with the Kaleidoscope Experience Supervisor to ensure appropriate material is in place at numerous locations throughout the Kaleidoscope studio.
  • Be accountable for efficient handling, inventorying and distribution of all Kaleidoscope materials.
  • When appropriate, manage Corporate Storage costs and inventory.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the die-cut press.
  • Executing the make-ready processes.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the Hallmark Visitors Center bow machine.
  • Demonstrating excellent communications and public speaking skills.
  • Satisfying all quality control oversight of the die-cut press.
  • Demonstrating in-depth understanding of Hallmark.
  • Demonstrating outstanding skills in all guest interactions with ultimate regard for Hallmark’s high standard of ethics, caring and penchant for safety.
  • The Materials Coordinator must assure efficient handling, inventorying and distribution of all Kaleidoscope materials by the variety of individuals involved. Those individuals include but are not limited to Hallmark corporate storage employees, Hallmark and HVC Ambassador, and employees who deliver and receive Kaleidoscope materials.
  • The Materials Coordinator makes adjustments and/or corrections on equipment to ensure accuracy and quality. Performs preventative maintenance, alerts necessary personnel when equipment needs service. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Follows appropriate safety procedures and attends safety trainings to ensure safe and correct operation of multiple machines including the power walkie, the industrial paper cutter, the die-cut press, the bow machine, and various shop equipment.
  • Demonstrate outstanding skill in all guest interaction with ultimate regard for Hallmark’s high standard of ethics, caring and penchant for safety.
  • Is worthy of the corporation’s and the Hall family’s trust to demonstrate Hallmark’s standard of excellence while affirming its beliefs and values. Serve as the voice and image of Kaleidoscope, the Hallmark Visitors Center and Hallmark. This responsibility could involve hosting and/or setting up tables and fixtures for receptions, representing Kaleidoscope at area schools, day-to-day guest interaction, including Saturday and holiday work, and serving in the role of other attraction employees in their absence. Enhance visitors’ experiences with personal attention to special requests, always attempting to go beyond expectations thereby creating loyal, happy Hallmark customers. The scope of this guest interaction can and has included the US President, Missouri Governor, friends of the Hall family, civic leaders, school administrators, etc.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of exhibit pieces through collaboration with the Kaleidoscope/HVC Creative Implementation Leaders. This work includes construction and painting, manual labor, and operating shop tools (electric saws, drills, sanders, etc.).

Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Public relations experience working with a variety of people of all ages.
  • Speaking with large groups and individuals.
  • Operating shop tools (electric saws, drills, sanders, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of PC or Mac computers.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical degree or Trade certification.
  • Experience with large manufacturing equipment.
