Marketing and Communications Director

Summary of Position:
The marketing and communications director develops and implements the SFM marketing and communications plans. This position manages all internal and external communications, including but not limited to, agent communications, public and media relations, crisis management, and corporate communications. This position is responsible for ensuring consistency in messaging, creativity, and placement across multiple channels and devices. If needed, this position will manage development and implementation of paid advertising, content marketing, and social media marketing.
Essential Job Functions:
- Leads a team of marketing and communications professionals in the development and execution of the SFM strategic marketing plan, and all associated internal and external communications
- Collaborate with business units, agents, and other business partners to ensure information is transferred to internal and external stakeholders prior to need
- Drafts, edits, and distributes company press releases, fact sheets and corporate background information
- Lead the tactical development of media plans consisting of broadcast, cable, outdoor, print, and digital media as required. This includes all catastrophe related communication
- Develop and recommend creative, positioning, and messaging strategies to increase market share long term
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to business partners including public relations, design, Web development, and advertising firms
- Monitor competitive products and marketing activities
- Monitor advancements in technology and research emerging technology to discover opportunities, improve marketing campaigns and communication, and owned media channels
- Develop benchmarks to effectively measure marketing and communications objectives
- Oversee and evaluate market and consumer research and adjust marketing strategy to align with market changes and shifts in consumer behavior and buying habits
- Partner with the business systems department in the creation and improvement of customer/agent-facing solutions; oversee related marketing efforts to ensure messaging and branding consistency
- Create presentation material and key messaging for targeted individuals; audiences include but are not limited to, state legislators, reinsurers, trade organizations, and SFM board members
- Develop and clearly communicate brand value consistently across media channels and devices
- Oversee development of digital marketing, corporate communications, and marketing reports

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university in marketing, communication, or other associated discipline.
- 5+ years’ experience in marketing or communication leadership role, with proven success in developing and executing integrated marketing and communications campaigns
- Strong ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Clear understanding of media fragmentation/consumer decision process
- Fundamental understanding of search engine optimization and demonstrated success of developing strategies to overcome algorithmic changes of major search engines
- Collaborates and interacts well with diverse groups in various positions and departments
