We are looking for a Payroll Manager to join the Finance/Accounting team. This individual will report to the Senior Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting and have the opportunity to work with a team of highly motivated professionals within a fast-paced dynamic environment. The Payroll Manager will work to ensure payroll is processed timely and accurately and oversee payroll administration and payroll tax reporting for the Company's team members and independent contractors. This role must be dedicated to accurate and timely processing of payroll, with problem resolutions as needed, a commitment to process improvement and a strong customer service orientation. This individual will place emphasis on innovation through automation, process improvement and system enhancements, while focusing on improved efficiencies and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Manage and process full cycle bi-monthly Domestic & monthly International payroll, and special and off-cycle payroll runs for exempt and non-exempt employees.
- Manage and lead (short-term and long-term) design, implementation, and maintenance of payroll system, process, and procedures.
- Ensure all employees are paid timely and accurately, reviewing correctness of all deductions, timesheets, garnishments and other special payroll deductions and earnings.
- Validate and maintain all payroll records including W-4s, payroll registers, payroll journal entries, quarterly payroll tax returns and W-2's, archive and safeguard all payroll related files according to company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Partner and work with external 3rd party payroll service providers to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
- Partner and collaborate with the Finance/Accounting team to ensure accurate general ledger posting and reconciliations.
- Review and audit quarterly tax filings and respond to governmental agency inquiries.
- Partner and coordinate with the Stock Plan Administrator to ensure timely and accurate processing of RSU vesting events and other applicable equity exercises.
- Partner and collaborate with the People Operations team to develop and implement SOPs for all payroll processing activities, recommend changes/improvements as needed and continuously improve all payroll processes.
- Understand and ensure compliance with proper taxation of employer paid benefits and process through payroll
- Research and respond to all team members pay inquiries regarding payroll.
- Coordinate year-end tax activities including adjustments to tax withholdings, submission of IRS employer reports, and validation and distribution of W-2's wage and tax statements to employees.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviews professional publications participates in profession groups
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of managing and processing Payroll in a multi-state environment
- Mid-size or startup experience is ideal
- Understanding of federal and multi-state overtime laws and regulations
- Deep familiarity with payroll administration, payroll audit, employee onboarding, withholding setup, benefits deductions, and garnishments.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance matters as they relate to equity, stock plans, and RSUs
- An understanding of equity compensation and its impact to income and related tax withholdings
- Ability to work independently and take initiative to meet deadlines with accuracy
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus
- Experience with Namely Payroll and HRIS is a plus
- Experience with the technology industry is a plus
