Manager of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Details

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Safety, Health and Environment Manager at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, TN, as part of its Ordnance Systems Inc. (OSI) business.

The SHE Manager will provide strategic direction and leadership to four (4) critical business support groups within OSI-Holston. These groups include Safety, Environmental and Employee Health. These groups manage and have oversight for the various programs that:
a) Ensure the safety of over ~875 employees working in 24 hr/day, 7 day/week high-explosives manufacturing operation;
b) Ensure the environmental protection of the 6,000+ acre HSAAP facility and its surrounding publics and maintain regulatory compliance with all of the major environmental legislation (CAA, CWA, RCRA-C, RCRA-D, TSCA, SARA, NEPA, others) which impact OSI-Holston operations;
d) Ensure the integration of an OSI - Holston employee health program within the industrial occupational clinics at the facility.

As evidenced by this listing, risk avoidance and mitigation, business continuity, environmental stewardship, energy management and conservation, and employee and public welfare are all key elements of this position. The SHE Manager will also interface with all regulatory agencies (State and Federal) as well as Department of Defense Headquarters (DoD HQ) contacts on regulatory issues on behalf of the business unit (OSI-Holston).

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10 year of relevant experience
    Substantial experience with occupational hazard identification, related risk assessment, and determination of proper controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and foster an environment that encourages initiative, creative thinking, collaborative action, and process improvement.
  • Able to cultivate a positive SHE culture to achieve world class performance.
  • Ability to successfully interface with all regulatory agencies (State and Federal) as well as DoD HQ contacts on regulatory issues on behalf of the business unit (OSI-Holston).
  • Demonstrated success leading improvements in Health, Safety and Environment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related discipline
  • 15-20 years of relevant experience
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Experience working in a chemical or explosives manufacturing environment
  • Process Safety Management experience
