Since 1982 San Francisco AIDS Foundation has been fighting to eliminate HIV transmission and to improve the quality and length of lives for people living with HIV. While progress has been substantial, our work is far from complete. More than 25,000 people every year access free HIV testing and STI screening, harm reduction and syringe access and disposal, community engagement, and health navigation services from SFAF. Position Overview::

This position will be responsible for supervising the SFAF-wide lab tech team and working with the Director of Clinical Operations to oversee laboratory services. This position also serves as a lab tech as needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities::

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Primary responsibility to provide direction and oversight to the lab tech team across the Foundation’s different locations. Ensures team is extremely knowledgeable about internal and external referral options, harm reduction practices, best practices in client care, and sexual health. Supports close communication between lab tech team and other clinical staff to optimize client experience, quality of clinical care, and ongoing professional rapport between these teams. Partners with the Lead RN to ensure effective communication and coordination between clinical teams.

• Supports the Director of Clinical Operations in developing policies and procedures, trainings, QA processes.

• Supervises the lead lab tech and venue testing coordinator, providing support as needed.

• Performs role of lab tech, phlebotomist, and service navigator as needed in the Foundation clinics and testing venues.

• Supports the Director of Clinical Operations to ensure quality assurance and safety standards are in place and adhered to at all SFAF locations. Follows up on laboratory errors and develops a corrective plan that supports high quality client care.

• Work with SFAF testing staff, interns, community outreach workers, and volunteers conducting testing to ensure their accuracy and competency.

• Train new volunteers and staff who will conduct HIV testing.

• Supervises the Phlebotomy Externship Program and coordinates the scheduling of phlebotomy externship students.
  

Essential Qualifications:::

• Must have an active CPT License with the California Department of Public Health.

• Experience working with diverse populations including LGBTQ+, injection drug users, and unhoused individuals.

• Must have two years of experience supervising staff.

• Must have three years of experience working in a laboratory setting.

• Must have two years of experience as a licensed phlebotomist.

• Two years' experience conducting HIV testing and counseling services in the state of California – preferred.

• Proficiency in Spanish, Russian, Cantonese, or ASL – preferred.

• Certified HIV and HCV Test Counselor (State of CA) – preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:::

Skill in operating equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The position may have exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious agents. Works directly with bio-hazardous materials and infectious wastes.




Education and Experience:: :

• Must have an active CPT License with the California Department of Public Health.

• A minimum of three years of experience working in a laboratory setting

Work Environment:::

This position is primarily located at 470 Castro Street,: San Francisco, however it may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job. Role may include evening and weekend coverage.
