Your day to day
Purpose of the Role:
The Manager IT Database Administration manages all aspects of the database engineering practice including working across multiple Global Technology teams to perform POCs, evaluate, select, and deploy emerging database technologies, implement database, and event monitoring tools, oversee diagnostic analysis and performance optimization routines. Provides management oversight of daily database operations and top-tier support for resolution of operational issues.
The Manager IT Database Administration develops future roadmaps and contributes to enterprise database strategies, influence management to implement those strategies and works with technical project managers to deliver projects efforts through agile methodologies.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide technical design efforts for IHG’s Database Administration practice by working closely across multiple Global Technology Teams to collaborate on and drive general system engineering efforts through implementation and maintenance, and administration assure highest reliability and availability of
- Leads a highly skilled technical team who are responsible for complex projects and database
- Promotes the Database Administration disciplines through the development of effective standards and process improvement across cross-functional
- Monitor database server capacity/performance and make infrastructure and architecture recommendations to management for necessary changes/updates.
- Manages new project implementations for database deployments and data migration
- Escalates and resolves data system issues, outages, and complaints
Key Shared Accountabilities:
- Responsible for building relationships and Influences Global Technology leaders, business leaders and business process owners to maintain consistency with architecture roadmap for their area and overall Database
- Works with stakeholders at the leadership level and define requirements as it relates to the operational efficiency of current and anticipated processes
What we need from you
Education:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work-related
Experience:
- Typically, a minimum of 10+ years of progressive work-related experience with demonstrated proficiency in multiple disciplines, technologies, or processes related to the
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading multiple projects and teams in the implementation, and maintenance of integrated systems across a hardware and software platforms on a global basis (local, remote, and offshore).
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of a broad set of responsibilities including database administration and database support
- Proven leadership experience managing a team of up to 10 engineers
- Experience managing a large multi-platform environment with software development life cycle (SDLC) and/or enterprise applications development and integration environment
- Proven experience in designing clustered, load balanced, high availability, and continuous availability database solutions, patch and Configuration Management
- Knowledge of Oracle Exadata engineered systems, AWS RDS technologies, GCP Data Analytics and interdependencies with hardware and software platforms used within the business
- Demonstrated effectiveness in executive presentation and escalation management
- Ability to influence peers, and other cross functional departments regarding database and data
- Ability to work across multiple levels of the organization from developers to senior leadership team members
- Demonstrated process improvement capabilities demonstrating the ability to proactively identify problems and recommend
- Demonstrated experience with vendor negotiations, and leading the RFP process
- Strong customer-oriented approach and ability to influence others to achieve outstanding customer satisfaction
