Position Information:
The communications and marketing manager for the Ferguson College of Agriculture requires the ability to think strategically, a desire to lead a fast-paced creative team and contribute to an integrated communications department. The manager is headquartered in the OSU Agricultural Communications Services unit. This individual will have a proven track record for supervising a creative team focused on integrated strategic communications. The manager works closely with the Associate Dean and leadership of the college to develop and implement appropriate content across multiple communications platforms in order to highlight the college and the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources within the OSU community, as well as the state, region and country.

Responsibilities:
The manager facilitates and collaborates on a wide variety of communications and marketing initiatives involving students, faculty and academic programs. Projects include marketing strategy, graphic design, website content, social media, crisis communications and risk management collaboration, media relations, press releases, newsletter content development, video production, photography and special events. Provide overall audience strategy, social media planning and event promotion.

Supervise direct reports, initiate and implement timely ideas, write copy, edit, design, photograph and/or video, and present the finished products to the intended audiences. The manager supervises 1 full-time creative communications specialist, 1 full-time digital communications specialist, 1-2 Graduate Teaching Assistants (.50 FTE), and 1-3 Undergraduate Interns.

Some travel. Travel budget provided.

This is an exempt position (which indicates that the position is exempt from overtime pay/comp or personal time accrual). Regular office hours are 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00 p.m. According to OSU policy, a 40-hour workweek is considered minimal for exempt staff and you are expected to work hours in excess of 40 hours per week when the workload requires additional hours (to include some early mornings, evenings and/or weekends). Duty reporting station is Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Education & Experience



Position Qualifications:


Required:

Bachelor's in Communications, marketing, graphic design, public relations, agricultural communications or related

5 years required in communications or marketing. Supervisory experience required.

Oklahoma driver’s license or ability to obtain Oklahoma driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

Duty reporting is in-person on the OSU campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Valid Driver's License

Strong creative and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in the university setting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Public relations, marketing and social media skills. Excellent editorial judgment and the ability to develop and implement intriguing content across multiple media platforms relevant for a variety of audiences including students, faculty, alumni and the public. Experience developing and implementing marketing plans is also required. Ability to work under deadline, both within a strategic communications team, as well as independently.

Other skills include:

  • supervisory experience;
  • demonstrated excellence in customer service and experience in consultation and client management;
  • interpersonal skills in areas of team building, writing and oral presentations;
  • communications background with advanced skills in photo editing, composition and graphic design;
  • communications background with advanced skills in the use of popular social media platforms;
  • experience writing and creating content for digital delivery;
  • exceptional proofreading and editing skills;

*experience with crisis communications and risk management collaboration; *experience working with third party marketing, communications and service firms;

  • news writing, photography, video production and knowledge of AP Style are helpful;
  • knowledge of production agriculture is a plus.

Preferred:

Master's in Agricultural Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design or related

Five years of professional communications and marketing experience.
