SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Worker maintains safe conditions in all facilities and/or workspaces housing Head Start children and staff. The Maintenance Worker will maintain and distribute all janitorial supplies to Head Start facilities. The Maintenance Worker will assess maintenance needs, completing minor maintenance requests, following maintenance ticket processes, or referring maintenance requests for outside contracts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Be committed to the vision and mission of Community Progress Council and Head Start of York County.
  • Assess safety condition of all playground equipment and hard surface used by Head Start children according to Safety Checklist. Make immediate corrections to unsafe conditions when possible. Any issues causing critical safety concern is to be repaired or removed immediately. Report unsafe conditions needing further attention to Facilities Manager for action.
  • Complete Head Start Facilities Checklist according to Head Start schedule.
  • Spot clean carpet, as needed, and thoroughly clean carpet yearly.
  • Maintains janitorial supply inventory; supply outside facility janitorial supplies and equipment as requested by site staff, Facilities Manager, and work order requests.
  • Respond to work request orders, after reviewed by supervisor.
  • Maintain facilities, performing minor and routine painting, pluming, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities; Assess need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment, advise Facilities Manager of conditions and recommendations.
  • Clean heat register and air conditioner filters prior to usage season. Replace air conditioner filters when necessary.
  • Assist staff to set up, put away furniture and equipment as requested by supervisor; pick up and deliver maintenance and program supplies.
  • Assist with snow and debris removal from sidewalk/parking areas.

    EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma/GED preferred. 2-5 years of experience in maintenance field and must demonstrate skill and abilities to perform job (skills checklist will be used to assess). Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment preferred.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS TO CONSIDER

  • Reliable transportation for regular and timely attendance as an essential job requirement. Ability to be reached by telephone in a timely manner. May be required to commence workday at different agency sites. Ability to respond to change in a productive manner and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write messages and record data.
  • Department of Human Services FBI Clearance, National Sex Offender Registry clearance, PA State Criminal History and/or Childline Abuse Certification required prior to hire; remaining clearance due within 30 days of hire date; a physical assessment including tuberculosis skin test, Child Abuse "Mandated Reporter" training due within 90 days of hire, and a valid driver's license with acceptable driving history.
