Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician for White House Utility District (WHUD) is responsible for performing maintenance activities including the upkeep, preservation, and repair of all mechanical, electrical, and communication components within the district’s water and wastewater facilities that move, store, or treat water and/or wastewater.
The Maintenance Technician is required to have a thorough understanding and the applied experience to competently perform mechanical maintenance and repair on pumps, motors, pipes, valves, and appurtenances, including electrical and communication systems.
The Maintenance Technician is required to investigate, diagnose, and resolve mechanical and electrical issues competently, safely, and reliably while adhering to industry standard best practices quickly, accurately, and often independently. Work must produce results that maintain operational functionality and meet regulatory compliance mandates without incident.
The Maintenance Technician will be held responsible for performing work in a manner that is compliant with the district’s safety requirements and protocols, including water and wastewater compliance with all state and federal regulations.
The Maintenance Technician will also be held responsible for the triage, facilitation and/or mitigation of service calls both during and after-hours including weekends and holidays. The MT is required to work in a rotational on call schedule with other employees in the Maintenance Department.
Likewise, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing duties such that all service interruptions and reported emergencies that are within the scope of the Maintenance Department’s responsibility are resolved and that service has been restored without exception.
The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma
- Grade II Distribution and Collection System Operator License - (this can be obtained after employment but must be acquired within 24 months from start date for continued employment)
- Prior pump and motor experience in a utility or industrial setting
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a motor vehicle record that is insurable throughout employment with the district
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for a public utility
- Must pass a thorough and extensive background check and drug screen

- Independently inspect, investigate, identify, troubleshoot, repair, remediate, and/or replace mechanical, electrical, and communication equipment, devices, and appurtenances
- Ensure all mechanical, electrical, and communication equipment devices, and appurtenances are inspected, maintained, tested, calibrated, and verified per the manufacture’s specifications
- Inspect, maintain, test, calibrate and verify per manufacturer’s specifications that all mechanical, electrical, and communication equipment, devices, and appurtenances function in accordance with intended design performance and capacity limits without exception
- Perform general housekeeping and groundskeeping at all water and wastewater facilities, including but not limited to ensuring the facility is dry and free from leakage; heating, cooling, and ventilation systems are properly functioning; lighting is properly maintained; all piping, metal, and mechanical equipment is freshly painted; the facility is clean, free from garbage, trash, and used parts; and the grounds, including fencing, roads, drainage, etc., are maintained, internally and externally, in pristine condition
- Accurately and comprehensively document all work activities in the district’s system of record adhering to the district’s established workflow and work process requirements
- Quickly respond to, mitigate, and resolve emergencies, service interruptions, and after hours calls with a sense of urgency and expedience to successfully restore service(s) without further incident
- Maintain inventory at predetermined levels in an organized and methodical manner
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and vehicle(s) are inspected, and maintained per the manufacture’s recommended guidelines
- Perform other duties and tasks as directed

ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL, & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must perform physically demanding work under a variety of working conditions with daily exposure to water and wastewater
- Must be able to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs and perform work at varying elevations up to 200 feet
- Must be able to swim and tread water
- Must be able to walk, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, stretch, twist, or other similar motions
- Must be able to work in small, cramped spaces such as ditches, trenches, manholes, meter vaults, and other confined spaces
- Must utilize and make rapid, complex adjustments and compensations to control the actions of equipment, machinery, and tools
- Lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds
- Must be able to perform essential functions under exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, water, sludge, wastewater, odors, rain, ice, snow, wind, temperature extremes, fumes, toxic agents, extreme noise, machine vibrations, electric currents, etc.
- Must be able to use and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Must be willing and able to report to work for emergency duty in the event of a man-made disaster or an act of God. Emergency duties may involve tasks outside the scope of the employee’s normal work routine
The starting pay for this position is $19.20/hour. Wages may be negotiated based on prior experience, applicable certifications and licenses, and other credentials.
