Occupational Summary: Operate grinding machines to produce components to specified dimensions according to required quality standards. Essential Functions: Operate a minimum of two (2) similar machines simultaneously within a subgroup to produce a diversified range of parts on complicated short run and/or long run work to close tolerances, and exacting finish specifications. Refer to Shop Order for dimensions, tolerances, finishes, and number of parts to be machined. Follow established procedures, verbal instructions. Use micrometers, verniers, optical comparator, microscope, and a variety of fixed and adjustable gauges to set-up equipment and check work. Check parts periodically; make adjustments to correct variances, maintain required tolerances, and quality. Diagnose and correct operating difficulties. Work subject to process inspection; screen parts for established defect characteristics. Maintain necessary records. Detect and report unusual conditions and special problems to proper Supervisor. Move materials, parts, and containers, as required, in performance of duties or as directed. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations, and conform to OSHA regulations. Keep work area in clean and orderly condition. Perform other duties as required or directed. NOTES: (1) Assigned work areas may change as production requirements warrant. (2) Operators are responsible for producing quality parts; i.e. within specification. Non-conformance to specifications must be brought to the attention of the Team Leader or Supervisor. Requirements: Education: High School diploma or equivalent Experience: Prior machining experience is a plus. Understanding of the metric system a plus. Job Skills: Must be able to demonstrate proficiently the ability to operate a minimum of two (2) types of machine subgroups (such as grinding machines as shown below), AND a combination of operations such as Track and Bore, or Roller and Track, or Bore and Roller. Must also be able to consistently and efficiently run two (2) machines simultaneously while producing high quality parts Grind Subgroups: Bryant LL, LF, MCM, Model B KSB80, KSR80D, KSR80D1, KSB30, KSR30 KS-350R2, KS-350D1, KS500R, KS500R1, KSR-150 Cincinnati, Koyo, Peter Walters, Corner Grind (Element cell) Abilities: Demonstrated mechanical aptitude Ability to read and understand complex written and verbal instructions in English Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction) and maintain an understanding of the decimal and metric systems Able to be flexible and respond to the changing needs of the organization Other Requirements: Note: Physical job requirements may include standing, use of hands to assemble and or carry out job functions as well as sitting, lifting, carrying, bending and stooping during the course of the job.
