The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law seeks a Training Director to lead the Lodestar Dispute Resolution Center’s efforts to provide alternative dispute resolution training to the public. The Center is a nationally recognized center of excellence in the field of dispute resolution, engaged in teaching, scholarship, and service both to the university and the community. The Training Director will lead the Center’s external training program, designing and teaching a variety of dispute resolution programs for legal and non-legal audiences. Training programs will include – but are not limited to – mediation, mediation advocacy, negotiation, workplace dispute resolution, and family dispute resolution.

Essential Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for and have duties in the following areas:
  • Designing engaging and interactive trainings targeting legal and non-legal audiences.
  • Preparing educational materials for training participants.
  • Drafting marketing materials geared toward specific audiences.
  • Conducting in-person and online training programs as the sole or primary instructor.
  • Maintaining participant records and responding to records requests.
  • Developing and implementing a plan to grow training opportunities for legal and non-legal audiences.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the goals of the center and/or ASU Law.

Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctorate.

Desired Qualifications

  • Five years practice in alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation.
  • Working knowledge of mediation, negotiation, and general alternative dispute resolution principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of alternative dispute resolution in family and civil law settings.
  • Experience designing and teaching training programs to various audiences.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Use standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor and mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology.
  • Local travel for some training events may be required.
