DutiesSummary

You will serve as a LIFTING AND HANDLING SUPERINTENDENT in the CRANE MAINTNEANCE DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT at the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.


Responsibilities
  • You will work with and through subordinate supervisors to manage and get the workload accomplished.
  • You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all work performed within the Crane Maintenance Division.
  • You will plan and schedule work on a long-range basis, ensuring schedules and priorities established by higher authority are met.
  • You will make recommendations to higher level management when revision or modernization of work techniques are needed.
  • You will coordinate the work between various projects and trades.
  • You will maintain refueling designated cranes to support schedules IAW special procedures.

    • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
    • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
    • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
    QualificationsYour resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
    • Experience in weight handling equipment maintenance methods, procedures, materials, and processes.
    • Experience with record keeping procedures used in supporting major industrial ship repairs, facilities, plants, and equipment.
    • Experience in project management, quality control, testing, inspection, cost control, schedule control and work control techniques related to weight handling maintenance operations in support of ship repair projects.
    • Experience with the organization, policies and procedures, interfaces, communications, and operations of the Shipyard.
    • Experience communicating both in writing and orally to inform, persuade, negotiate, advise, and train others.
