Position Overview:

Reporting to the Memory Care Director, and with oversite by the Director of Campus Programs, the Life Enrichment Coordinator (LEC) for Frank Residences memory care is responsible for helping plan and facilitate a comprehensive therapeutic activities program designed to meet the needs of residents at all stages of memory loss/cognitive impairment, to include group, 1:1 and self-directed activities. The LEC is also responsible for engaging families, volunteers and caregiver staff in the activity program, to the extent possible, to promote positive, therapeutic interactions in the MC milieu. The LEC is responsible for completing all documentation to meet RCFE regulatory requirements, including active participation in developing and implementing resident care-plans. The LEC models best practices for communication and behavioral interventions with persons living with dementia, serving as a role model for caregivers, families, volunteers and visitors.

Essential Functions:

• Provides ongoing opportunities for therapeutic self-expression for persons at all stages of memory loss, using a wide- variety of modalities to optimize resident quality of life and promote the resident’s best ability to function.
• Facilitates programs that encourages social interaction, reduces isolation/boredom and reduces the frequency and severity of the challenging behaviors associated with dementia.
• Creates a positive, caring and stimulating environment that embraces and respects the unique and diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds of all residents.
• Motivates residents to become actively involved in the LE programs to improve quality of life and maintain cognitive functioning. Encourages the participation of families, volunteers and caregiver staff, as appropriate.
• Understands and responds to the needs and abilities of the individual residents and families, which will vary, and must be able to carry out activities with these differences in mind.
• Provides one-to-one relationships with the residents who decline to participate in group activities, or who are unable to attend group activities.
• Fulfills important psychosocial needs of residents/families by providing emotional support in times of crisis and decline.
• Responsible for timely completion of resident’s documentation to include attendance record, care-plans and other activity notes or mandated reports as needed.
• Works closely with caregiver staff, Byer Square staff and Life Enrichment staff throughout the campus to promote teamwork, quality outcomes and programming that is beneficial to those we serve.
• Mentors student interns and volunteers who are involved with activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in area related to field (recreational therapy, expressive arts therapy, psychology, health care, geriatrics, social work, or recreation administration) required, Master’s degree preferred.
• Two years’ experience working with older adults with dementia or a related population, preferred.
• Excellent group leadership skills, organizational and communication skills, required.
• Creative, flexible, energetic, enthusiastic, resourceful, self-motivated, innovative thinker, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively, independently and within an interdisciplinary team-work approach, required.
• Must be sensitive to varying levels of cognitive, physical and emotional health, required.
• Ability to work with people of diverse background, culture, religion, etc., required.
