SUMMARY OF LEAD TEACHER POSITION:

Lead Teachers are responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans that create a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children, ages 2.5 to 5 years, with and without disabilities, have the opportunity to flourish in all domains of development. The Lead Teacher leads and supervises at least one Teaching Assistant. With guidance from the Specialists and Program Director, the Lead Teacher will participate in a leadership role within the organization, and in on-boarding and training for Instructional Assistants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

  • As a Lead Teacher, will work with Directors, Specialists and Teaching Assistants (TAs) to implement classroom instruction while modeling the core philosophies of TJS.
  • Oversee all functions related to the classroom.
  • Attend all staff trainings, meetings and lead teacher meetings.
  • Be a positive role model for students and co-workers.
  • Responsible for overall classroom culture, including develop ongoing team building activities
  • Establish regular meetings with and observation of Teaching Assistants, and provide direct, positive and constructive feedback regarding program fidelity, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • In collaboration with the Program Director and HR, establish a training schedule for new Instructional Assistants.
  • Lead and provide documentation of monthly team meetings.
  • Provide direct oversight and supervision to all Teaching Assistants including goal-setting and performance enhancement, staff reinforcement, performance evaluations, and hiring and selection.
  • Meet with the Specialists and Program Director to review student progress, observations, training topics, individual staff, student, and family needs.
  • Coordinate all communication with parents.

Programmatic Oversight

  • Create, manage, supervise and revise the classroom schedule daily.
  • Knowledge of implementing and utilizing Creative Curriculum as a tool for development and learning in the classroom.
  • Create and post weekly lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and align with Teaching Strategies Gold objectives.
  • Ensure small and large groups are being scheduled, planned and run throughout each week that hit on different learning domains aligned with Teaching Strategies Gold objectives.
  • Oversee ongoing progress monitoring of all students in the classroom utilizing Teaching Strategies Gold and other assessments and differentiate learning and groups as necessary.
  • Meet twice a year with families to discuss progress, strengths, and areas of growth.
  • Ensure materials are prepared and present daily for all students and times of day and delegate to teaching assistants if materials need to be developed.
  • Manage physical environment of the classroom, including changing out toys regularly, keeping student and teacher materials organized, and sanitizing toys and classroom weekly.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director on any needs regarding prospective families and new enrollees. This may include discussing the classroom with parents during tours, observing students prior to enrollment, reviewing child information and sharing new student information packet with families prior to start date.
  • Develop substitute plans, as needed, for staff absences.
  • Participate in housekeeping duties to maintain compliance with DHS, Health and school wide policies.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of incident reports and review with Program Director.
  • Manage and oversee classroom budget.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four Year Bachelor Degree required
  • Early Childhood Teacher Credential 2.0 - Early Childhood Professional Level III required
  • Degree Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Special Education, or enrollment in a Master’s program (preferred)
  • At least 2 years teaching experience in an early childhood setting required.
  • Experience working with children with developmental disabilities preferred.
