Lead Security Technician Details

Primary Function:

Configures, installs, dismantles, reconstructs and programs security and security related systems as required by customer and directed by manager.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, diagnose and repair various access control, CCTV, and alarm intrusion systems. Install, repair and maintain security systems; perform regular maintenance to prevent break downs; diagnose problems with computerized systems and determine course of action and perform repair.
  • Plans security alarm installations by surveying and evaluating location; identifying alarm installation requirements; laying-out equipment and wiring plan.
  • Contacts customers prior to the date of scheduled installation to verify schedule.
  • Establishes security alarm system by installing equipment and associated cabling; programming and calibrating equipment; adhering to codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Follow proper schematic wiring diagrams and hook-up procedures. Tests operation of equipment to signal-receiving center to properly establish.
  • Verifies security alarm functioning by testing equipment, connections, and signals; identifying and correcting problems.
  • Maintains records by documenting installation.
  • Maintains customer rapport by resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Works safely and responsibly to avoid injuries, damage to property, loss of unused materials and cleans up installation debris.
  • May assist in preparation estimates in accordance with prescribed instructions or directions of manager.
  • Conducts service calls.
  • Perform additional assignments per manager’s direction.
  • Understand ANSI and ISO standards.
  • Can terminate a RJ45 head.
  • Can terminate a BNC connector if needed.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of wire colors for a complete door install.
  • Capable of installing a Mag Lock, Electric Strike and Mortis Lock from start to finish.
  • Full working knowledge of devices associated with a door installation and can troubleshoot (motion, exit button, lock and card reader).
  • Basic camera knowledge of IP and Analog cameras.
  • Can use laptop proficiently (change network settings and run CMD).
  • Has a working knowledge of relay logic, card formats and access control systems.
  • Handles all day to day interaction with the client or GC and communicates, changes, delays or schedule changes back to the PM.


Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Educational and experience requirements include: High school diploma or equivalent, prefer additional technical school or equivalent training and up to ten (10) years’ experience in Access Control, preferably with AMAG and DSX experience. Also required is CCTV, Intercom and Burg experience. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude Skills: Ability to read blue prints and schematic drawings, ability to operate hand and power tools, ability to operated fleet vehicle in safe manner, valid operator’s license, exceptional written and oral communication and exceptional customer service skills. OSHA 10 required. Prefer OSHA 30 also.

Position is critical to the successful implementation; installation and completion of security install contracts to insure the success of multiple projects.
