Lead Press Operator Details

Job purpose
To run and maintain Heidelberg Offset sheet-fed printing press. The Lead Pressman is part of a two-man team taking direction from the Pressroom Manager and Production Scheduler and is responsible for achieving a high quality print standard on various commercial and board substrates. The Lead Pressman is also responsible for the conditioning and basic daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on the press. This position will lead press crew and monitor quality and performance goals daily.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work with Pressroom Manager and Production Scheduler for shift expectations
  • Daily startup procedures and press readiness checks
  • Monitor/maintain coatings per job/shift
  • Maintain consistent press readiness and maintenance
  • Report any press issues to supervisor/scheduler and work directly with technical support
  • Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills a must
  • Run press while monitoring color balance and print quality (experience with InPress or Axis color management preferred and a plus)
  • Experience in color analysis using the L*a*b* color space in addition to densitometry
  • Experience in printing commercial work and/or folding cartons
  • Required to confirm/verify/enter materials usage into press-side data collection system
Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Attention to detail is critical
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Clear communication skills both with co-workers and management
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Prior experience as a Lead Pressman (familiarity with Heidelberg presses a plus)
  • Must be able to maintain good attendance.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
Physical requirements

Physical ability and stamina sufficient to maintain continuous physical effort throughout shift, including frequent lifting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and twisting. Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Manual labor is defined as exerting force sufficient to lift up to 50 lbs.
