Overview: This position is in the Labeling Department. The Lead Laboratory Technician is responsible for coordinating and performing complex labeling tasks. Taking a lead role, they coordinate the work of others, developing processes and overseeing follow-through. They compile, finalize, and report data and findings.
The Lead Laboratory Technician determines methods for monitoring laboratory equipment and laboratory supply levels. They ensure smooth operations of the daily activities of the laboratory and as a skilled specialist, they complete tasks in resourceful and effective ways.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the activities of a team conducting and performing laboratory tasks. Prepare, label and weigh samples for preparing, testing and analysis. Assist the team in decisions to verify and reject various hypotheses applying knowledge and skill.
- Determine and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) to ensure consistency in practice. Troubleshoot elevated problems which may require a resolution deviating from standard practice.
- Create, track and compile data for program key performance indicator (KPI) metrics.
- Review custom label requests for feasibility and accuracy. Establish processes for making custom labels. Test, validate, and document results neatly and accurately in databases or paper records.
- Oversee and control laboratory supply levels by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt. Ensure inaccuracies are addressed and resolved.
- Ensure departmental compliance with appropriate QA requirements. Investigate non-conforming product through root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop recordkeeping processes to log work which support decision making.
- Perform quality control tests ensuring all labeling equipment and work areas are clean, sterile, and in proper working order. Perform troubleshooting and calibration of instruments.
- Serve as a back up to the Supervisor in his/her absence.
- Train and mentor technical staff.
- Offer suggestions for and contribute to optimization of processes.
- Apply job skills and knowledge to complete a wide range of tasks and challenges.
Qualifications: Education and Experience:
- High School diploma and 5 or more years' experience, including 0-2 years' supervisory experience or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal customers to address and resolve issues presented.
