DutiesSummary This position is located in Navy Gateway Inns & Suites at Great Lakes Naval Station. The purpose of this position is to provide non-technical general labor as required. Ensures security of all guests is maintained at all times. Ensures guest privacy is maintained at all times. Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with the guests; answering guests questions concerning hotel facilities; and provide information about local attractions. Provide assistance in handling customer complaints, involving management as necessary. Performs one or more of the following duties: Uses heavy power mowers, adjusts blades, and cleans and oils mowers; cuts trees, using ax or chain saw. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where dirt is hard and compact and does grading and sloping. Occasionally and for short periods of time, breaks up pavement with jackhammer, mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot mix, fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Uses leaf blowers, vacuums, pressure washers, carpet cleaners, and other associated equipment. Moves furniture and materials. Performs other duties as assigned. A qualified candidate possess the following: Ability to operate, control, and clean heavy power equipment and to work safely with heavy tools. Ability to complete assignments involving several tasks or processes which require remembering directions, sequences, etc. Must possess basic math and reading skills Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. This position does not have a positive education requirement. Conditions of Employment Cont. Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused. This position is subject to the possibility of workdays on weekends and holidays, as well as, rotating shifts, often consisting of other than normal duty hours. The staff member may be recalled to duty and. Or required to work overtime, including on an emergency basis. Must possess a valid state driver’s license, as travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties. In order to verify fitness for duty, a complete physical examination may be required. This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC). May be required to possess and maintain a current driver’s license, as travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties.
