Job Summary
Charles River Labs seeks a hands-on Laboratory Team Lead (In vivo) to coordinate operations and technical execution of immunological methods in our humanized animal model production lab located in Wilmington, MA.
The Laboratory Team Lead will be responsible for the following:
- Provides technical oversight of protocol execution and hands on training for project team.
- Develop and update SOPs and train team members on execution of SOPs.
- Ensure welfare compliance and participate in the review and generation of IACUC protocols.
- Responsible for meeting production goals and technical execution of adoptive transfer methods.
- Performs, oversees and works closely with the project team on tissue culture and animal dosing experiments. Trains and participates directly in execution, providing technical oversight of hands on laboratory support.
- Works with aseptic techniques, BSL2 conditions, handling of mammalian cells.
- Oversees preclinical rodent animal manipulations and dosing and directly participates in the execution; including handling, injections and bleed procedures.
- Small animal surgery experience is favorable, but not required.
- Coordinate all aspects of project execution, including scheduling production studies, preparing study documents and ensuring project team preparedness.
- Works with client-facing teams to resolve/explain operational issues.
- Monitors metrics and performance data of procedures and production efficiency and provides reporting for forecasting purposes.
- Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory management:
- Maintains supply chain of laboratory supplies, organizes laboratory materials/inventories, approves and coordinates receipts for orders, processes quotes/purchase orders from vendors.
- Maintains the calibration, safety and certification of lab equipment.
- Manages inventory of pre and post production animal subjects.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:- Associate’s degree (A.S.) or equivalent in biological sciences or related discipline OR graduate of a collegiate veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Training Activities or equivalent program in veterinary technology.
- 5+ years related practical lab experience in a Pharmaceutical, Biotech or Contract Research Organization, or laboratory environment working directly with small animals (rodents) and mammalian cell culture.
- An equivalent combination of education and lab management experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Experience creating/editing/training others with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Experience leading teams.
- Project management skills including experience in forecasting and meeting deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent in biological sciences or related discipline.

- General laboratory working conditions, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Exposure to animal odors and dander is inherent to this position.
