Job description
The IT Support Technician's primary focus will be in the areas of computer operations, user and desktop support (hardware and software), help desk, and data management. Performs a variety of moderately complex information technology support duties to ensure smooth delivery of technology services. Monitors, operates, or coordinates and assists others in the operation of computer hardware, software, and peripherals in order to achieve desired results. Utilizes computer equipment, software and diagnostic tools to perform a broad range of customer assistance, production job processing, equipment maintenance and repair and computer operations assignments. Requires minimum supervision and may act as lead when the need arises. Updates supervisor on status of projects or technical issues. Exercises judgment and creativity in selecting and applying procedures correctly, and determines when to refer problems to the supervisor.
Typical Duties:
- Provide support to the inside customers of the organization
- Hands-on network installation and maintenance, including cable and hardware installation
- Provide technical assistance by answering questions and resolving computer problems for employees in person, via telephone or electronically
- Responsible for the installation and use of computer hardware and software, including setup and configuration of servers, networking equipment, desktop computers and peripherals
- Provide troubleshooting, repair and maintenance for computer equipment (e.g. computers, drives, and printers) and may assist with testing computers and peripherals on a network to diagnose, hardware versus software problems
- Manage cell phones – troubleshoot, order, and replace
- Assist with Server Administration including backup management, security issues, setup and configure Linux and Windows based servers and software
- Assist with Network Administration – configure networking equipment, ensure network security and manage firewall
- Work with IT team to manage information security risk
- Administers user accounts
- Design and produce basic reports
- Maintain IT inventory
- Some travel required to setup and maintain new and existing company facilities throughout the US
- Perform other duties, as necessary.
Preferred Experience/Education:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in the field of computer science, information systems or related field.
- 3-5 Years IT experience, including technical support
- Equipment support experience with PC’s.
- Working technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards.
Skills Required:
- Communicate effectively in 1:1 or small group situations.
- Ability to prioritize and organize time effectively
- Ability to travel overnight
- Willingness and ability to perform hands on technical work such as network cabling, hardware installation, surveillance camera installation
- Ability to work at moderate heights in a lift for cabling and hardware installation
- Work positively in response to a high workload or requests made at short notice.
- Work accurately with attention to detail.
