Irrigation Technician

JOB DESCRIPTIONWe are currently looking for a qualified Irrigation Technician for this location. Working under the supervision of a licensed irrigator, the Irrigation Technician installs, maintains, alters, repairs, services, or supervises the installation of irrigation systems for our customers, which includes connecting systems in or to a private/public, raw, or potable water supply system or any water supply. He or she must strictly follow all safety procedures, company policies, and OSHA guidelines when performing any/all tasks associated with this position.
The ideal candidate is licensed according to all current local, state, and federal regulations and is up to date with all industry specifications, products, and equipment. Candidates must have the physical ability to perform all aspects of this job, which includes working outdoors in all conditions, and must be able to understand spoken and written instructions in English. A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required. RESPONSIBILITIES- Presents a professional image through proper employee actions and by wearing the approved uniform
- Responds with a positive, responsive, and flexible attitude to customers and ensures all requests have been completed satisfactorily, escalating to the Owner/Manager when needed
- Keeps the Owner/Manager aware of all customer concerns and communication on the job site
- Inspects site and advises customers of potential liabilities
- Ensures that all irrigation clocks are is scheduled to operate during non-business hours, unless otherwise dictated by state watering policies
- Keeps customers informed of the progress of any ongoing repair that will last more than a day
- Schedules workload for the next day, preparing and securing all materials, tools, and equipment
- Maintains and promotes safe working conditions in the field at all times to ensure zero preventable accidents, which includes wearing and maintaining the required PPE at all times
- Participates in safety tailgate meetings with the crew
- Securely stores all products and ensures that all active repairs that involve open dug areas are marked by caution tape and safety cones
- Ensures all assigned equipment, tools, safety items, vehicles, and trailers or other items are maintained in proper working and are clean and neat and present a professional image
- Maintains and secures equipment and is accountable for neglect and abuse of assigned equipment
- Helps with Quality Control in the field and informs Crew Leader/Manager/Owner of current site conditions
- Maintains all jobs to bid specifications and ensures customer satisfaction (internal and external)
- Ensures that all areas disturbed for trenching or digging are returned to original site specifications
- Monitors all irrigation controllers and ensures zero loss of plant material due to poor controller monitoring
- Learns the location of all water meters and backflow shut off devices for each job site
- Keeps Owner/Manager aware of any irrigation repairs needed
- Tests, runs, and inspects each system and records notes of the system on the appropriate form
- Sets controllers according to contractual obligations, always following a water wise approach and all water restrictions
- Makes necessary adjustments, such as adjusting irrigation patterns, dates, times, run times, and frequencies on timer clock/controller
- Makes necessary repairs (breaks in the line, bad heads, nozzles, valves, wiring, etc.)
- Records all work including hours spent, materials used, and recommendations if renovations are required
- Locates existing backflows, controllers, zones, and valves and prepares zone charts/diagrams/legends for the systems
- Completes the “spring startup” of systems and diagnosis
- Properly winterizes irrigation systems to prevent freeze damage to all exterior pipe and heads as well as backflow prevention systems
- Reads and understands various manuals, blueprints, and schematics
- Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS- Must be knowledgeable of current industry specifications, products, and equipment
- Must follow current local, state, and federal irrigation regulations and licensing
- Must understand the principles of irrigation operation and repair and be able to perform or assist with major irrigation repairs as necessary
- Must be able to read and write English and follow written and spoken instruction
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license in this state
- Driving record must meet company standards and all state requirements
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must be able to remain flexible to work with a variety of tasks daily
- Must be able to organize and implement work schedule
- Must be able to read and understand MSDS sheets
- Must be willing and able to remain on-call to respond to emergency situations
- Must be able to lift or move up to 60 pounds and perform all other physical requirements associated with a position of this nature
- Must be willing and able to work in an environment that includes exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions
