INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY TECH II - HEART CATHERIZATION LAB

Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the Cardiac Cath Lab mission. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard procedures and policies and conforms to them. This knowledge may include the use of specialized instrumentation, quality control requirements, specific regulatory requirements of Title 22, California Licensing & Certification of Health Facilities; Title 17, California Radiation Control Regulations; and, preventive maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned that does not violate laws or regulations that require personnel with special licensure. Operates and sets up specialized equipment. Scrub assists. Inventories patient encounters. Required stand/by on call.
Essential Functions:
Interventional Rad Tech I:- Enters the cardiac Cath Lab with limited experience in interventional cardiovascular procedures but a desire to learn and advance in a highly technical and challenging work environment.
- Upon completion of initial orientation and competencies checkoff the IRT will be able to demonstrate the ability to: test the integrity of the x-ray systems output as part of quality control with proper documentation to computer-based files;
- Demonstrate proper use of radiation safety equipment, collimation, filtering, and imaging techniques to optimize and protect patient and staff in the Cath Lab environment;
- Understand and apply the principles of image acquisition and be able to perform functions related to the retrieval of archived studies, quantitative analysis, and image reproduction;
- Power up and trouble-shoot CV x-ray systems (fixed and mobile) and competently operate table-side controls for magnification, angulation, and positioning of the patient.
- Upon completion of orientation will demonstrate the ability to scrub assist on multiple diagnostic cardiac procedures with special emphasis on sterile technique.
- Assists with inventory stocking and outdated checks.
- Use departmental and Organization resources appropriately.
- Maintain attendance according to hospital policy and procedure.
- Record time and attendance accurately and timely.
Interventional Rad Tech II:In addition to the Level I duties the level II:- Is competent in left heart hemodynamic and physiological measurement recording on the current system.
- Proven competencies in rhythm and dysrhythmia recognition (ACLS current).
- Ability to operate multiple specialized modalities to include, but not limited to, pressure transducers, blood oximetry, and thermodilution cardiac output.
- Setup of dedicated equipment for physiological coronary flow reserve, intravascular and intracardiac ultrasound, pressure injectors, atherectomy systems, and thrombus extraction devices.
- Scrub assist advances to interventional procedures to include; coronary and endovascular stents, electrophysiology/ablation;
- Pacemaker and defibrillator generator implants and intra-atrial occlusion device implants.
- Assists with daily inventory scanning of patient encounters to the web-based tracking system.
- Standby/on-call required with a 30- minute response time requirement.

Education, Training, and Experience:
Required:- For all levels: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology program required
IRT I:- Recent radiology experience with satisfactory evaluations and a desire to learn invasive procedures.
IRT II:- Recent Cath Lab or interventional radiology experience.
Preferred:- Previous cardiac, endovascular, or electrophysiology experience in a busy invasive Lab.
- ARRT post-primary certification in CV Interventional, Cardiac-Interventional or Vascular Interventional Radiography strongly recommended.
- RCIS certification.
- IRT I: 1-2 years recent interventional, CT, or general radiology experience.
- IRT II: 3-5 years recent Cath Lab or interventional radiology experience with extensive scrub experience.
Skills or Other Qualifications:
Required for ALL LEVELS:- Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures, and infection control.
- Ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information, and instrumentation may be required.
- Windows XP or Windows 98 computer knowledge.
License and Certifications:
Required:- California State Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
- License and Fluoroscopy license required.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification required AHA
- BLS certification is required.
