Summary Description:
The Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant (IR PA) is responsible for providing competent medical care in accordance with the professional scope of practice and current State of Oregon regulatory statutes. As the IR Physician Assistant, you will be managing patients with complex, acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. IR Physician Assistant in this position will function highly independently with their delegated assignments, as part of a larger team with The Medford Radiology Group. The IR Physician Assistant will provide care for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The IR Physician Assistant must possess excellent customer service, communication skills and demonstrate ability to interact with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
General

Job Specific
- Provides appropriate patient care as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with many specialists to coordinate and optimize patient care.
- Obtains patient's health history that is pertinent to their presenting complaint.
- Performs physical examination that is appropriate to the presenting complaint and historical data.
- Obtains the appropriate diagnostic studies necessary to evaluate differential diagnosis.
- Prescribes the appropriate medications and other treatment modalities within expertise and scope of practice.
- Formulates/ executes plans for management of common IR periprocedural issues, including but not limited to: lab, transfusion, contrast, anticoagulation/ antiplatelet, and post procedure pain management issues.
- Provides detailed procedural education, including specific procedure risks, benefits, alternatives and expected outcomes. Participates in the informed consent process per institutional policy.
- Documents assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care in the patient record.
- Identifies situations that are beyond their expertise as an IR PA or scope of practice and refers to the appropriate Radiologist.
- Applies sound judgement and skill in emergent situations.
- May be required to take evening, weekend and holiday call based upon company needs.
Scope of Practice, Principal Duties and Functions
Perform Interventional Radiology Procedures (with appropriate proctoring and privileges):
- Assist with interventional radiology procedures as directed by IR.
- Perform injections, exchange and removal of drainage catheters to include GU and GI drains.
- Perform imaging guided thoracentesis and paracentesis.
- Perform venography and assist with arteriography.
- Perform PICC placement and repositioning with ultrasound d or fluoroscopic guidance.
- Placement, repositioning and removal of tunneled and non-tunneled catheters including implanted ports.
- Perform lumbar puncture and myelography under imaging guidance.
- Perform biopsy under imaging guidance to include thyroid and lymph node.
- Perform arthrocentesis and joint injections under imaging guidance.
- Placement of small-bore chest tubes under imaging guidance.
- Arrange necessary surgical, interventional and diagnostic procedures including but not limited to: MRI, CT or ultrasound imaging with healthcare team.
Perform Interventional Radiology Procedures after hours when a supervising physician remains immediately available by phone:
- Injection, exchange and removal of drainage catheters to include GU and GI drains.
- Imaging guided thoracentesis and paracentesis.
- PICC placement and repositioning with ultrasound d or fluoroscopic guidance.
- Placement, repositioning and removal of tunneled and non-tunneled catheters including implanted ports.
- Lumbar punctures and myelography under imaging guidance.
- Arthrocentesis and joint injections under imaging guidance.
- Placement of small-bore chest tubes under imaging guidance.
Qualifications:
Education
- Current Oregon license as a Physician Assistant with prescriptive authority
- Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Current BLS certification is required
- Current Registry R.T.(R) (AART) (Preferred)
- Maintain hospital privileges/credentialing where IR procedures are performed
Experience
- Within the 2 previous years have minimum of 1000 hours of practice following completion of training in area of expertise. Hospital-based training programs may be counted towards these hours.
- For initial appointment, 3 letters of references from persons who are directly familiar with applicant's clinical work are required; 2 letters must be from physicians.
- CME of 100 hours is required every 2 years to maintain privileges.
