JOB TITLE: INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL
WORK YEAR: 190 days
JOB SUMMARY:
An Intervention Specialist is an individual who has a very strong background and expertise in multi-tiered systems of support and/or response to intervention systems. The Intervention Specialist is a member of a school faculty and has the responsibility of working with the principal and faculty to implement school plans and best practices in instruction. The Intervention Specialist will deliver and support high quality interventions targeted at the specific needs of students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide high quality literacy instruction to individual students and small groups
- Use data and information from diagnostic assessments, classroom teachers, and other sources to provide targeted and timely instruction to students.
- Collaborate with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students
- Use identified research-based practices and interventions focused specifically on individual student needs
- Maintain data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress
- Provide data to school teams and participate in decisions about student progress and placement
- Communicate with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress
- Assist with identifying students for placement in intervention groups
- Participate in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress
- Provide input for program development
- Support implementation of assessment tools and data management systems
- Serve as a building MTSS team leader by designing and supporting intervention strategies in support of student and teacher success
- Facilitate and lead building and district professional learning activities
- Model and teach respect with an awareness of diversity.
- Use current body of knowledge in cultural diversity issues in teaching and curriculum development to design and adapt individual/group academic and behavior/social programs in all school settings.
- Participate in development and implementation of individual student plans (e.g., IEP, 504).
- Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.
- Work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social and academic needs of students.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all students and with parents/guardians concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
- Take primary responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and district in-service meetings.
- Participate in activities that are related to school functions and/or the education process that occur outside the regular workday, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Maintain regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedule.

- Support students and staff in the district’s career related learning standards to encourage the development of independent work skills through career exploration and community involvement.
- Collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods.
- Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the school.
- Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Valid Oregon teaching license
- Minimum of five years teaching experience
- Experience in delivering intervention especially in literacy
- Demonstrates knowledge of state standards
- Recognition by colleagues and community as an outstanding classroom teacher
- Deep knowledge of effective pedagogy practices
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of schools, teachers, and students
- Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills that carry out a common instructional focus
- Ability to design and deliver quality professional development
- Ability to develop relationships with others by listening, understanding, and reserving judgment
- Model the characteristics of a reflective professional who monitors and evaluates one’s own professional activities with the goal of continual growth and development
- Knowledge of best practices relating to assessment
- Experience in analyzing data to plan for instruction
- Ability to support teachers in development of differentiated lessons
- Ability to support teachers in the development of differentiated instruction
- Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and presentation skills
- Experience in providing ongoing school-wide professional development
- Reading endorsement
