Job Description:


The International Insurance Specialist position at Student Health Services is responsible for managing international health insurance compliance for all UCF students with an F or J visa status in accordance with the Florida Board of Governors requirements and the Code of Federal Regulations. Acts as a liaison among sponsors, UCF departments, insurance companies, and students to ensure the accurate maintenance of insurance records.

  • Evaluate insurance plans to verify compliance with state and federal government regulations.
  • Collaborate with insurers to identify compliant options for students.
  • Coordinate with UCF departments and international sponsors to obtain required documents.
  • Identify and inform non-compliant students of their status and requirements.
  • Maintain online document submission system and update student database and electronic health record with received records.
  • Run/update database reports and maintain report templates for tracking of international student population.
  • Develop and implement policies for health document submission, student database maintenance, electronic health record data storage, quality assurance, and HIPAA-compliant customer communication.
  • Draft departmental policy manual, printed handouts, and web content related to international insurance requirements.
  • Serve as organization representative at international student resource fairs, check-ins, orientations, recognition ceremonies, and welcome receptions.
  • Coordinate staff, facilities, and schedules during large student orientations for insurance and immunization compliance.
  • Develop presentations and facilitate educational workshops.
  • Coordinate reconciliation of insurance claims and patient balances with claims administrators, UCF SHS Insurance and Collections departments, and patients.
  • Provide insurers with approved student information to facilitate enrollment of special groups.
  • Assist students with resolution of insurance enrollment and claim submission issues.
  • Collect and input immunization information into student database for any records submitted by UCF departments on behalf of international students.
  • Departments include Global UCF, UCF Abroad, English Language Institute, and Rosen College.
  • Report students' compliance status to UCF departments.
  • Staff hiring, training, supervision, and development. Create and maintain training manuals and online training course.
  • Audit staff assignments and perform staff evaluations.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations. Ensure security and confidentiality of all student information.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the Health Informatics Manager or designee.

Work Schedule:


Monday - Friday within the hours of 7:30am - 6:30pm (8 hour shifts/40 hours a week). Occasional Saturdays may be required. Hours are subject to change due to operational needs, special projects and emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:


High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Preference may be given to candidates with knowledge of basic healthcare/insurance terminology.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with great customer service skills.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
