Duties Summary

The Captives Branch of the Insurance Division is seeking a Captive Insurance Examiner II. The incumbent will be engaged primarily in examination and financial analyses of the operations and practices of captive insurance companies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in economics, business administration, accounting, or a related social science.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in accounting, auditing or the examination of business operations, of which at least three (3) years shall be in the insurance field.

Knowledge: Understanding the state laws, rules and regulations governing the conduct of the captive insurance business; principles and practices of accounting and auditing; captive insurance industry organizations, operations and practices; financial and annual statements developed and/or approved by the NAIC.

Skills/Abilities: Ability to effectively plan, organize, coordinate, and perform a program which examines the solvency and practices of captive insurance companies; skill and ability to analyze financial operations, detect and thoroughly analyze problems; interpret financial reports, laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the captive insurance business; prepare clear and concise written and oral reports; supervisory skills; and maintain effective working relationship with others.

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Other Information

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will," which means that you may be discharged from your employment from the department head or designee at any time.
