JOB SUMMARY


Mechanical

Support production by repairing, maintaining and improving all production and service equipment and building utilities. Must develop skills and be willing to train in specialized maintenance areas such as electronics, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatic and mechanical systems. Must be able to set up and operate common machine shop equipment using standard practices; as well as have the ability to set up, measure, and perform precision adjustments and alignments of equipment. Must have proficiency in fabrication and welding using 2 or more types of welding equipment. Must be able to perform machine maintenance independently on all equipment within the plant.


Electrical

Support production by repairing, maintaining and improving all production and service equipment and building utilities. Must develop skills in specialized maintenance areas such as electronics, welding, machining, hydraulics and pneumatics. Must demonstrate proficiency in and be willing to train others in areas of specialization. Must be able to operate common machine shop equipment. Must be able to weld and fabricate. Must be able to perform machine maintenance independently on all equipment within the plant. Must be able to improve reliability or functionality of equipment by retrofitting new components on existing equipment including planning stage. Must be able to perform maintenance on equipment with missing or inadequate documentation. Will have trade knowledge in electronics and maintenance field. The employee must consistently demonstrate, on a daily basis, that their performance is exemplary and meets the standards of the department.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive work assignments, either verbal, written, or computer generated as directed by supervisor together with drawings, schematics, sketches or other data and information.
  • Setup and operate common machine shop equipment. Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
  • Diagnose, repair and maintain all basic electrical and mechanical equipment such as N/C burn machine, hydraulic shears and press brakes, other metal working and cutting machinery, coil winders, ovens, cranes, welders and other equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems in the following specialized maintenance areas: electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
  • Fabricate miscellaneous weldments using various types of welding equipment.
  • Perform machinery rigging, loading, unloading, machinery moving, modify and install mechanical equipment.
  • Work overhead as required to repair cranes, etc
  • Keep tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly. Assures safe handling of oils, chemicals and hazardous waste streams and operation of associated equipment.
  • Proficient use of e-mail, Internet searches, data entry, etc.
  • Perform other work as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

TOOLS AND MACHINERY:

Full range of machine shop equipment and maintenance tools and equipment. Some test equipment,

such as multi meters and others.

MATERIAL:

Oils, solvents, paints and thinners. Nuts, bolts, screws, manufacturer-supplied parts, sheet, plate,

bar, round and other stock.

GENERAL:

Work under general supervision with little direction from others. Dismantle or repair equipment as required, using parts, manufacturer’s specifications and occasional instructions from other personnel. Will be responsible for maintaining all plant utilities and for ensuring that they are in good working order. Will fabricate and weld with proficiency as required. Work at heights that vary from below ground level to approximately 70 feet and occasionally required to work on various projects on the roof of the building. Working conditions vary from wet, oily and dirty to relatively clean. Occasional outdoor work required in extreme heat and cold. Nature of work dictates that weight range will run the entire spectrum of weights allowable for lifting by hand. In cases when weights are beyond those that are normally lifted, mechanical aids will be provided. The job requires medium to heavy work with possible difficult work positions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

Technical Diploma, break down of year of experience below. May consider High School Diploma or equivalent with years of service.

Mechanical

Position requires 3 - 5 years of related industrial maintenance experience with Technical Diploma in Industrial Maintenance or 5 or more years of related industrial maintenance experience with some formal technical education.

Electrical

Position requires 1 – 3 years of industrial electrical experience with Technical Diploma in Electronics or Electro Mechanical Technology; or 4 year Electrical Apprenticeship with 0 –2 years of industrial electrical experience; or 5 or more years of industrial electrical experience with some formal technical education. Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Windows based computers, PLC’s and variable frequency drives
