Our work seeks to promote access to decision-making, self-determination, leadership and legal equality, and dismantle entrenched cultural beliefs. IFES works with election administrators to develop electoral assistive devices, such as tactile ballot guides and with DPOs to develop voter education information in accessible formats, such as by developing sign language lexicons in Tunisia, Libya and Morocco. IFES has supported DPOs on legal reform, including working with Armenian advocates on a national disability rights law; supporting inclusion of disability rights language in several constitutions, including in Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka; and successfully advocating with DPO partners to remove clauses that were discriminatory to people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities in Indonesian legislation. IFES projects take an intersectional approach, including supporting public policy advocacy of women with disabilities across South Asia and political leadership courses targeting young people with disabilities in the Dominican Republic. IFES has also conducted disability rights programming in numerous closing spaces and conflict-affected countries, including Haiti, Laos, Libya and Zimbabwe. Under the supervision of the Senior Inclusion Specialist, the Inclusion Program Officer will provide technical, subject matter support to HQ and field program teams on disability rights. The Inclusion Program Officer will provide technical assistance to regional program teams in order to ensure people with disabilities are included in IFES programming, including mainstreaming as well as standalone programs. IFES is looking for an Inclusion Program Officer who will be responsible for supporting IFES’ disability rights portfolio, working on an expanding team of political inclusion experts. You will have the opportunity to work on disability rights internally and with our partners around the world. The portfolio will include (but will not be limited to) promoting inclusion of persons with disabilities in electoral institutions, enhancing access of voters with disabilities to political processes, and strengthening the capacity of persons with disabilities and their organizations to advocate for their political rights. You will collaborate with colleagues focused on gender, youth, Indigenous Peoples, displaced people, and ethnic and religious minorities to ensure that the perspectives of people with disabilities are included in IFES’ entire social inclusion portfolio.
