Department Description
The Comparative Bioscience Center provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
Detailed Description
The Husbandry Attendant will provide daily care for laboratory animals maintained at Rockefeller University using established policies and procedures as prescribed by federal and state laws and regulations. Will perform multiple assignments including cage changing, general care, and monitoring and reporting of animal health. Responsibilities include maintaining and reporting on facility equipment, cleaning assigned rooms, performing animal receiving procedures, and maintaining consumable supplies (food, water, bedding) in assigned rooms. Will be responsible for animal room records and notification of appropriate personnel concerning irregularities in animal health and the environment. The Husbandry attendant will report to the Floor Supervisor and be overseen by a Group Leader.
Job Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent required; certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level is preferred. One year of experience in a research facility is preferred, although a two year college degree can be substituted for one year of work experience. Knowledge of federal and state laws regulating animal use in research, standard operating procedures, and handling and restraining animals preferred.
Additional Details
Must be able to push/pull carts on weight-bearing wheels weighing a minimum of 500 lbs, lift supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and tolerate a significant amount of standing, bending, and walking. Must not be allergic to animals, waste products, or bedding. Requirements are subject to change as a result of facility needs.
