Based upon response to this posting, this position may be filled as a Human Services Assistant I or Human Services Assistant II Human Services Assistant I is the entry level in the occupational group for Human Services Assistants. Employees follow established guidelines, policies, & procedures while performing routine administrative tasks supporting & assisting agency clients while receiving close supervision from professional or administrative staff. General work tasks: interviews clients & takes applications for services or benefits; documents file, inputs data, prepares & maintains records; prepares periodic, special, & other reports; verifies complex statistical & other complicated reports for accuracy & completeness; prepares & types a variety of financial, statistical forms & reports, & case documentation; prepares case files, completes inquiries; purges cases; answers telephone & takes messages; purchases clothes for children; transports clients; assists children in the activities of daily living; & mails vendor invoices, surveys, & other correspondence Human Services Assistant II represents the full performance level in the occupational group for Human Services Assistants. Employees provide a variety of services while working in one or more program areas performing responsible administrative & technical work in support of agency clients. General work tasks: operates various computer systems to conduct searches for initial applications, renewals, & re-certification &/or to update information; provides information & assists clients with completing applications, etc.; answers incoming calls & responds to inquiries; provides case management support to the Human Services Specialist staff; prepares & mails correspondence; provides information & referrals & verifies information as required for other community resources; provides written &/or oral documentation regarding client contacts, verification letters, & other situations; sets up case files, typing or labeling case files, & completing forms; & assists in the preparation of periodic, special, & other reports.
Minimum Qualifications Experience in professional office environment including demonstrated ability operating a personal computer, Microsoft Office, multi-line telephone, and face-to-face customer service Demonstrated ability to interview and gather information, establish and maintain records, and access data. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Skill and understanding of mathematical problems.
Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task, work independently and as a team, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of VDSS Benefit Programs laws, regulations, procedures, and policies. Experience in VDSS/LDSS related systems such as VaCMS, DMIS, EPPIC, SPIDeR, etc.
Special Requirements High school diploma with work experience in customer service or general clerical work involving contact with the public OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid VA driver’s license with driving record that meets agency standards.

Must be willing to work in community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.
