Job Summary: The purpose of the Hospital Housekeeper I is to reduce the number of microorganisms that may come in contact with patients, visitors, staff, and the community. This position will maintain an orderly and aesthetically pleasing environment within the facility to assure that all areas comply with internal and external regulations on sanitation, infection control, and environmental contamination. Clean and sanitize a 24-hour facility and perform a full range of housekeeping/custodial duties in accordance with established housekeeping procedures and methods under the supervision of a designated service unit supervisor or lead housekeeper. Clean and sanitize floor surfaces throughout specified hospital areas by use of dry vacuum cleaners and the two bucket germicidal damp mopping technique. Strip, wax and spray buff hard floor surfaces (i.e. vinyl tiling and non-conductive terrazzo) on a scheduled basis by using the floor scrubbing machine. Collect general refuse from waste receptacles throughout specified hospital areas, including infectious wastes, and segregates from other soiled linen and refuse. Clean and sanitize the Interior surfaces of walls, windows, and ceilings of hospital patient rooms, offices, and restrooms, including drinking fountains, sinks, furniture, etc. Clean and sanitize Operating Rooms (Terminal clean at the end of the day). Clean the following during and after patient stay: ICU, L&D, Postpartum, Med-Surg, and Emergency Rooms. Keep restrooms in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. Clean, sanitize and deodorize lavatories, toilet bowls, and urinals. Provide needed supplies (i.e. toilet tissue, hand towels, hand soap, and deodorizers) for all restrooms in staff and patient care areas. Pick up soiled linen and laundry from specified hospital ward areas for storage in the soiled linen room. Deliver clean linen and laundry to specified hospital areas. Operate, clean, maintain and store all power equipment and associated materials in the proper manner. This position is part of the essential hospital staff that is expected to be onsite during inclement weather incidents. Other duties may be assigned. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT High School Diploma or GED preferred. At least six (6) months experience in a related field. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and Word Processing software. Valid CPR Certification preferred. None. Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudiation While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit.The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
