Broadway, Baltimore, MD 21287 Shift: Full Time (40 hours) Day Shift; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Non-Exempt "Will Consider Histopath Tech I, II or III Levels" The Histopath Tech prepares tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist. Performs duties independently requiring sound judgement and problem solving skills, under the general supervision of a supervisor, lead or charge technician. Education: Requires a minimum of an Associate’s degree in Histotechnology OR Associates or Bachelors’ degree with at least 60 semester hours of academic credit to include a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnololgy training program or completion of a clinical histology rotation in a NAACLS accredited laboratory granting HT(ASCP) eligibility OR(With 5 or more years Histology lab experience) will accept college course work of at least 60 semester hours of academic credit to include a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnololgy training program or completion of a clinical histology rotation in a NAACLS accredited laboratory granting HT(ASCP) eligibility OR Equivalent military certificate with histopath or hospital specialty. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: HT (ASCP) Certification Preferred Work Experience: One (1) - Five (5) years experience as a histology technician in a clinical setting, dependent upon education. Knowledge/Skills: Work requires knowledge of histochemistry, microscopy, processing techniques, preparation of specimens, medical terminology, and chemistry. An understanding of metric system is required. Performs all duties of Histo Tech I, in addition to, maintaining and programming tissue processors, performing special stains techniques and preparing various staining solutions, decalcifying bone specimens and staining using a modified H&E stain technique, operating automated slide and cassette printers.
This is close precision work requiring attention to detail. Must have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret directions, both oral and written. Organize and prioritize work and follow through on assignments. Can work successfully individually or as part of a team in a high volume, dynamic laboratory.
