POSITION SUMMARY: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Employee Supervision and Support ? Recruit, select, employ, lead and engage a strong, diverse, and capable team of staff to deliver innovative high- quality classes and programs. ? Follows YMCA procedures for interviewing, hiring, payroll and performance management ? Maintains accurate and compliant personnel files for each staff ? Conducts regular 1:1 staff check-ins and staff team meetings. Attends all staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. ? Assists in providing continuing education, workshops and safety training for staff ? Develops meaningful methods to motivate, recognize, grow and reward instructors ? Responsible for updating and maintaining communication between staff and leadership, as well as ensuring consistent member messaging, Y voice and cross-promotional class announcements ? Solicits member feedback, addresses concerns and resolves issues to build a relational and retention-oriented member experience Knowledge ? Demonstrates collaboration across departments in linking group exercise participation to the greater member experience, benefits and programming portfolio ? Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the fields of health, fitness, group exercise and wellness programming ? Leads by example with strong credentials and effective instructing capacities Scheduling/Programming The McGaw YMCA enforces its policies and practices to prevent child abuse. Coordinates and directs scheduling of group exercise personnel and assumes/ensures coverage of designated programs and areas ? Develops and maintains accurate class schedules across communication mediums and portals ? Assists in organizing, planning and promotion group exercise events and special programs ? Participates in the planning and running of YMCA community and family events ? Creates, selects and administers the correct programming for our membership, ensuring group exercise classes are available for all ages, interests and fitness levels ? Maximizes space utilization by actively programming and dynamically managing assigned fitness spaces ? Generates supplemental programming through small and specialized group fitness opportunities Evaluation ? Addresses lower-performing classes on a monthly basis to change instructor, time or format to affect greater attendance and result ? Assesses instructor performance through regular documented evaluations and ensures accountability and execution in improvement plans ? Evaluates programming and facilities to determine performance, maximize potential and resources, and continually improve upon the member experience Functions ? Oversees the implementation of daily operations in group exercise programming and fitness spaces, including staff, equipment and participants ? Incorporates their area of specialty into the Y offerings and is hands-on instructing/leading in this area, for approximately 30% of their work week, variable as dictated by departmental and branch needs ? Manages departmental budget, supporting appropriate communication, reporting and recommendations to supervisor ? Contributes ideas and executes an innovative and effective year round group exercise and general fitness marketing and retention campaign to attract, develop and keep loyal member participants ? Carries out related duties as deemed necessary by the Member Experience Department and branch operations to ensure an excellent member experience Accountabilities ? Under the supervision of the Member Experience Director or designated supervisor, the Health and Fitness Manager will run all aspects of the Group and Water Exercise programs in our buildings, virtually and out in the community. This includes the hiring and supervision of Group Exercise Instructors, scheduling Group Exercise classes to meet the needs and demands of our diverse membership. This position will be responsible for leading and coaching their staff team in the delivery of an outstanding member experience. This position’s time is split between instructing, supervising, planning and implementing as well as administrative work.
