Position: Head Teacher

Language: Bilingual required (English + Portuguese or English + Spanish)

Scope and Function

  • To assist the Director in planning and implementing the educational instructional program and activities.
  • To cooperate with the Director to develop, review and actively promote the school's philosophy and goals.
  • Work alongside the director and designated trainers to consistently infuse and incorporate the Legion of Goodwill's educational philosophies into the center’s curriculum in order to obtain the learning goals and objectives.
  • To support the teaching staff in the implementation of curriculum.
  • To help staff work toward appropriate certification and other update procedures, as required.
  • To assist or substitute at any given time foreseen by the director in any administrative or teaching position.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervise the instructional personnel in the assigned daily program for the children

a. prepare educational material required

b. assist teacher and aide to adapt material and approved methods to the needs and ability of students.

c. maintain an orderly physical and mental environment, conducive to the growth and development of the children by observing, recording and reporting significant individual and group behavior. The report will include both positive and negative factors.

d. review and approve the teacher lesson plan.

2. Work closely with educational staff and parents in identifying and solving student problems.

3. Participate in conferences with parents.

4. Assist in service staff meetings and other matters for staff improvement.

5. Participate in staff evaluation of all persons who have a direct relationship to the children.

Language required:

English and Portuguese or English and Spanish or the three languages

4. Ability to respond to and communicate with persons on all levels and with multicultural backgrounds.

5. To be accountable to the Program sponsor, director of the center and/or person designated for duties of director and in the absence of the director.

6. The nature of this position requires the head teacher to have high responsibility, integrity and truthworthiness as it is a position of immense responsibility.

Special Skills

Updated knowledge in the field of early childhood education gained in continued education in class workshops, conferences, online webinars etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education

Minimum - B.A. degree and New Jersey Registry approval for head teacher in early childhood education or Elementary education with minimum of 15 credits early childhood education and 2 years in child care or other teaching experiences.
