HEAD OF RESEARCH, RETIREMENT SOLUTIONS
This role is an integral part of the senior leadership within the Retirement Solutions team focused on development and execution of thoughtful research to 1) drive deeper engagement with clients and prospects on areas of retirement, as well as practice management topics (regulatory, tax); 2) support the development of innovative retirement solutions resulting in improved retirement outcomes. Head of Research will create our thought leadership strategy and lead the development of content essential to our consultative approach to helping plan sponsors, advisors and consultants and their efforts around retirement readiness. Responsibilities include:

Design and execute research strategy to develop thought leadership content for Retirement Discoveries (institutional) and Investment Institute (intermediary) platforms aligned with broader team strategic initiatives:

  • Monitor retirement market trends
  • Identify areas where insights are needed and provide content ideas
  • Create content (whitepapers, blogs, videos, one pagers)
  • Develop interactive retirement tools
  • Conduct statistical and analytical research
  • Collect data pertinent to regulations, economic indicators, industry statistics, and retirement plans
  • Monitor, research and publish on topics related to changing regulatory, tax landscape and its impact on retirees and financial wellness;
  • Participate and develop seminars for financial wellness programs
  • Partner with research vendor to conduct Retirement Survey


Support Institutional and Intermediary Distribution business development efforts:
  • Identify topics to proactively engage with clients/prospects
  • Represent retirement solutions at client and consultant meetings as the retirement research expert
  • Respond to internal partners’ inquiries
  • Update and refresh existing content within Retirement Discoveries (institutional) and Investment Institute (intermediary) platforms
  • Evolve financial wellness and retirement education programs to provide the most current information and tools necessary to provide sound retirement guidance
  • Participate actively in Industry Organizations including leadership roles and event presentations to promote research
  • Participate in Northern Trust sponsored events as retirement subject matter expert to promote research and retirement solutions
  • Support team’s efforts in investment strategy innovation and solution development

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 7 years of retirement industry experience, preferably generating research and educational content
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with financial advisors
  • Knowledge of regulatory and tax landscape, and related views on their impact on retirement industry
  • Knowledge of retirement market acquired through related work experience is required to develop and execute research strategy and serve as retirement expert
  • Planning, organizational, and leadership skills are necessary to oversee the project development
  • Broad investment product knowledge is required to support research efforts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Knowledge of advisory platforms, technology deployment and project management a plus
  • MBA or CFA preferred
