MITRE’s Finance organization is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Manager to support MITRE’s National Security Sector (MNS) its Senior Vice President, Vice Presidents, and Operations leadership team. As a Senior Manager, you will serve as a trusted advisor and business leader in support of the MITRE Sector Finance Management Organization. The Senior Finance Manager is also a direct manager and developer of people, leading all operations of their finance staff and supporting the growth of the broader finance communities. As a Senior Finance Manager, you will serve as the primary source of day-to-day financial management and business decision support to MITRE National Security Sector Leadership – playing a key part in the business operations functions that maximize MITRE’s value to our government sponsors.
This position is responsible for:
- Synthesizing & Elevating; Engaging & Influencing : Efficiently synthesizing the depth of analysis across the breadth of the business sector with which to engage the General Manager and Senior Vice President of MITRE National Security Sector and influence their decision logic for the better. Proactively elevating areas of financial and execution risk and opportunity.
- Integrating & Standardizing : Closely partnering with the leadership team of Sector Finance to attain an improved level of standardization and integration.
- Business Partnering : Understanding and managing all aspects of the MITRE National Security Sector business, including, but not limited to, the business unit’s strategic goals, use and deployment of direct and indirect resources, sources of revenue, demand forecasting, hiring planning and performance, budget management, data and information requirements, and dynamics of financial performance and analysis.
- Workforce Shaping : Cultivating future finance talent and capabilities through recruiting, individualized professional development, and deliberate succession planning.
- Strategy Execution : Supporting MITRE’s Good Growth Strategy and Mission, and the Finance Organization’s Strategy of building an innovative and impactful Finance community to protect and guide MITRE’s vibrant future.
This position is accountable to:
- The Director of Sector Finance to effectively implement and manage established goals
- Line business leadership to provide accurate, timely, and strategic business decision support - quality analyses including, insights, options, and recommendations
- Finance staff to provide ample guidance, tools, and resources, targeted professional development, and career pathing
- Other Corporate/Shared Service teams (i.e. Contracts, Accounting, FP&A) to ensure cross-organization collaboration and integrated business operations execution
- Peer Finance leaders for consistency in operations across all teams & collaboration on best practices
Key Functions of the role:
- Oversee a support organization of 50 staff – ensuring timely and complete delivery on organizational commitments and goals through oversight, guidance, and targeted development
- Full-lifecycle financial, and end-to-end business support of direct work programs (e.g. Business development, bid and proposal, budgeting and forecasting, resource management, execution, collections, and contract closeout)
- Lead recurring financial business reviews
- Support annual budget and forecast process managing demand signals and indirect rates
- Support leadership on financial performance management, financial planning, and ad-hoc projects
- Analyze and diagnose business drivers and variances to budget using various financial systems with focus on lessons learned & recommendations for Business Leadership actions
- Communicate financial results effectively with useful visual narratives and concise story-telling
- Develop financial projections using various methods and tools
- Prepare and deliver necessary supporting analytics to assist leadership in decision making
- Manage activities and information sharing with Business Partners, Sponsors and MITRE leadership
- Deliver training on financial tools and principles of project financial and MITRE business finance management
- Ensure strong operating financial controls and adherence to FAR, CAS, and MITRE finance policies
- Collaborate with line business leaders, MITRE Contracts, and sponsor counterparts to create and deliver pricing proposals to MITRE Sponsors
- Collaborate with Treasury to maintain timely accounts receivable and sustain positive cashflow
- Support Business Transformation & Process Reengineering Efforts
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of finance and/or accounting experience within the US Government (Federal) practice of a professional services firm
- 8+ years of experience leading and managing teams and delivering multiple high visibility initiatives simultaneously (including those led by both direct and indirect reports)
- Relevant academic and/or professional qualification (CPA and/or MBA preferred)
- Ability to secure (if not already in possession of) a security clearance.
- Experience managing contracts and the financial reporting requirements involved with the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Possess a robust understanding of DoD requirements and processes for contract and financial management – including recurring financial and comprehensive reviews.
- The ideal candidate should also possess knowledge of Cost-Plus federal contracting – ideally with the DoD. The candidate should have experience in the process by which Cost-Plus contract terms are negotiated and has a track record of securing favorable terms for their organization.

- While not required, the ideal candidate should also have led teams of financial analysts and managers supporting a DoD Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC). As part of this experience, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of how the DoD allocates and prioritizes Staff Years of Technical Effort (STE) and how contractors manage and deliver those STE.
