GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of Supervisor of Facilities Management, responsible for the repair, maintenance and care of the hospital grounds, parking areas and all the outside equipment; and for maintaining accesses to the hospital clear at all times. All work and related duties are to be performed in compliance with local and state codes. Incumbents are subject to overtime and callback as required by the hospital.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Performs maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways and parking lots.
- Drives and/or operates outside equipment to include: tractor, street sweeper, and lawn care equipment, power washer, etc.
- Performs outside demolition work, hauls debris and clean construction sites.
- Performs maintenance and repair or sends out for repair outside equipment and gas engines.
- Performs snow removal activities when necessary.
- Mows grass at regular intervals and edges sidewalks and curbs to give the grounds a well maintained and manicured look.
- Fertilize and seed the grounds at established schedules.
- Trim and shape trees and shrubs.
- Observes and adheres to safety regulations and practices.
- Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
- Is in compliance with Holy Cross Hospital Attendance Standards.
- Performs other responsibilities as required or directed by Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Skill and proficiency to read write and perform mathematical calculations and measurements as normally acquired through official completion of high school or its equivalent.
- Have basic knowledge of ground care, trees and outside equipment normally acquired through completion of high school courses and/or vocational school courses or appropriate experience in grounds maintenance
- Have working knowledge of local, state and national regulations regarding applications of fertilizers and pesticides, etc.
- Maintains valid Driver’s license. Compliant with PPD requirements
Experience:
- General knowledge of grounds care and outside equipment as normally acquired through 3 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of hospital/departmental policies and procedures and of hospital operation as normally acquired through 3 months on-the-job training.
