Grounds Maintenance Technician - Seasonal Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Technician - Seasonal Average Hours Per Week: 40 Department: Public Works Hourly Pay Rate: $13.82 Supervisor's Title: Public Works Director Status: Non-Exempt - Seasonal Job Summary The individual(s) in this position is primarily responsible for performing routine grounds maintenance in all aspects of city parks and facilities including but not limited to – horticulture, pathway maintenance, and irrigation. Occasionally, other than the routine items listed, there may be other matters that must be done to ensure the parks and facilities are well maintained. Duties require work to be completed courteously, safely, efficiently and in adverse weather at times. Will work under the supervision of the Public Works Director or sometimes an assigned supervisor, who gives written or oral work orders. Other duties outside of this description may be assigned. General Responsibilities Responsible for the following landscaping duties: · Assist under general direction with Irrigation monitoring, adjustments, and repairs · Assist under general direction with pathway maintenance and weed control within city property and easements · Monitors herbicides and irrigation supplies and submits inventory to supervisor for re-order · Perform insect spraying in park areas · Water all city owned flower baskets and planters during the proper seasons · Assist in the development of schedules for routine grounds activities, as well as short- and long-term plans for landscaping, and major repairs or replacement of grounds equipment · Maintain tools and equipment and guard against breakage, loss, and theft Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities · Skill in the use of commercial lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, sprayers, etc. · Knowledge of proper loading, transportation and unloading of equipment · Knowledge of basic and safe equipment operations and preventive maintenance · Ability to make independent judgments and decisions and work under minimum direct supervision · Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with respect to other employees, supervisors, and the general public Environmental Demands · Work is performed entirely outdoors and exposure to all elements: i.e., insects, extreme cold and hot temperatures, snow and rain, wind, and dust · Heavy lifting is required, sometimes up to 60 pounds · Some work is on public roadways, shoulders, bridges, etc., exposing employee to traffic and other hazards associated with moving vehicles Work Schedule The City reserves the right to make changes to the schedule as needed and to make changes to accommodate the needs and schedule of the employee(s). Work hours may vary and can, at times, include weekends and evenings and may be subject to change depending on daily duties and weather. Schedule: 5 days a week, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position Requirements · High School Diploma or equivalent · Minimum 1-year experience in a grounds maintenance role · Possession of a valid Idaho driver’s license · Provide proof of insurance to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Idaho Physical Requirements · Enough body movement to bend, stoop climb and work from ladders or while in awkward positions · Heavy lifting is required, sometimes up to 60 pounds · Enough stamina to perform duties for up to 8 hours at a time · Attitude of cooperation and maintain effective working relationships with others Preferred Qualifications · Preferred, Idaho Professional Applicator License with herbicide and or pesticide endorsements · Past experience in park maintenance Disclaimer Must perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation efficiently and accurately without causing a significant safety threat to self or others.
