The primary mission of the LA Conservation Corps is to provide at-risk young adults with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community.

Position Summary

The Los Angeles Conservation Corps’ Finance Grants Management team is responsible for managing all financial aspects of the Corps’ 140+ grant awards and contracts, including invoicing and the preparation of supporting documentation, receivables collections, grant budgeting, grant financial tracking and reporting, and grant fiscal compliance.

Reporting to the Manager, Grants Billing & Fiscal Compliance, the Grants Data Specialist plays a crucial role in support of grant invoicing and fiscal compliance by handling document management and data research activities for the Finance Grants Management team. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit environment. Other job-related duties may be assigned, as needed.

Responsibilities

Document management and Data Research

Responsible for various document management and data research tasks related to the monthly production of invoices.

Works collaboratively with other departments to capture missing support documents needed for billing transactions.

Researches, compiles, and reconciles various supporting documents that are included in client invoices.

Ensures invoice support documentation is accurate and reconciles to the GL expense and payroll schedules provided to the client.

Assists with the monthly aggregation of documents and data from various systems in support of the monthly billing process.

Collects financial and operational data for programs in support of grant close-out activity.

Compiles documents for funder-based audits as needed.

Ensures the appropriate documentation to support reimbursement of expenditures is accurate, collected, and stored on a timely basis in accordance with contract requirements.

Supports grant invoicing and grant compliance activities by ensuring all required documents and reports are extracted and electronically stored promptly.

Provides informational reports as requested.

Billing Support

Assists with fiscal compliance activities by supporting various requests for data from Sage Intacct.

Assists with various accounts receivable activities to include, but not limited to, the data entry of online invoices and the update of invoice templates.

Internal Controls

Reviews and understands Corps processes and procedures to ensure internal controls are maintained, and to protect the organization against fraud.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar ERP accounting software suite.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with using and updating databases.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in entering financial data.
  • Outstanding math and research skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education And Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required; Bachelor’s degree in these areas preferred.
  • Two (2) years of accounting experience.
  • The ability to present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly both verbally and in writing.

Other Duties and Requirements

  • Must be COVID-19 vaccinated and be able to provide supporting documentation.
  • Pass a post-offer drug/alcohol screen test before commencing employment (required to submit for the drug/alcohol screening at a company designated facility).
  • Pass a post-offer Live Scan (fingerprint/background clearance-Department of Justice) before commencing employment.
  • If a private vehicle is utilized for company purposes validation of a California Class C Driver’s License, validation of driving record and approval of commercial policy insurability is required in conjunction with proof of personal minimum liability insurance coverage per the requirements of the state of California.
  • Reference checks will be conducted; employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable references.

Salary and Benefits

  • Hourly rate range $20.41 - $25.13. A starting hourly rate higher than $20.41 is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
  • Medical, Dental, Vision Benefits with 100% employer coverage of costs for employee and 80% coverage for additional family members.
  • 3 weeks of vacation at hire; 11 paid Holidays and 2 weeks of sick time accrued per year.
  • 401k retirement plan with match of up to 4%.
