The purpose of this position is to construct and maintain city owned or operated facilities which may include streets, alleys, storm water detention and conduits, parking areas, rights of way, easements, water treatment facilities, landfills, airfield, parks and buildings, and to support departments when involved in disaster situations. This is accomplished by reconstructing or constructing streets, alleys, sidewalks, etc., maintaining water and sewer systems, operating equipment, raking asphalt, finishing concrete, operating rollers and mowers, and completing related duties as assigned.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Driver’s License Required – Y Type - A Endorsements – N - Tanker
Individuals who do not currently have a Class A – N license will be given until 1 business day prior to the end of their probation to meet this requirement as a condition of employment

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Mission Essential Position will be required to report for all inclement weather.
Knowledge of concrete and asphalt work preferred.
Ability to operate a dump truck, motor roller, and farm type tractor with attachments preferred.

# Code Essential Functions
1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice.
2 H Must be proficient in the operation of Tractor Equipment, Dump trucks and Rollers. Constructs and maintains streets by cleaning, applying sealing materials, rebuilding shoulders, applying surfaces, reconditioning base and sub-grade materials, replacing deteriorated curbs and gutters, replacing surface and base materials, repairing surfaces otherwise damaged, controlling vegetation, reducing weather effects, removing trash and other materials from rights of way, and reconstructing storm drainage conduits and appurtenances.
3 H Constructs and maintains storm water detention facilities and conduits by providing daily lake level readings, operating and maintaining the sluice gate system, repairing erosion related damage, controlling vegetation, removing trash and storm related materials, and reconstructing storm drainage conduits and appurtenances.
4 H Constructs and maintains water treatment facilities by disposing of water sludge through land filling and/or farmland applications, controlling vegetation, grading and applying aggregates, cleaning roads and parking areas, assisting in the maintenance of the water plant and distribution system, providing traffic control, and repairing erosion related damage.
5 H Constructs and maintains wastewater treatment facilities by controlling unwanted vegetation, cleaning plant roads and parking areas, assisting in the maintenance of the water plant and distribution system, providing traffic control, and assisting in the disposal of wastewater sludge.
6 H Constructs and maintains alleys and rights of way by patching and repairing paved and unpaved surfaces.
7 H Supports maintenance and repair activities for other departments throughout the city.

Formal Education Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
Experience Under and including one year.
Supervision Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.

Reading Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Math Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Writing Basic - Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
