The Role
The Tesla Raw Materials team is looking for a strongly motivated Global Supply Manager (GSM Raw Materials, Purchasing) who will be responsible for supporting the steep growth of Tesla’s programs globally and of the team’s reach across the supply chain. The GSM will be in charge and the full owner of the Tesla-Tier 2 relationship and as such be the main driver of the sourcing, negotiating and executing processes. The candidate will lead the conversations with the tier 2 suppliers, conducting a thorough due diligence of the supply chain to achieve successful launches. The GSM will work closely with the tier 1 GSMs, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Planners and Technical Program Managers to ensure that sourcing requirements are met, contracts are set-up in a timely manner, cost savings opportunities are aggressively pursued and that any eventual risk to the supply chain is communicated and mitigated in time. The candidate will also have to oversee material ordering and logistics, extract BOMs across all commodities and project schedules across the Tier I, II, and III in Tesla’s supply chain network to ensure vehicle projects are completed on time, in a productive manner while maintaining Tesla quality and COGS budget.
Responsibilities
- Project manage the raw materials commodities globally for all new vehicles introductions
- Initiate, own and foster the relationship between tier 2 steel and aluminum processors, tier 2 resin suppliers and distributors and Tesla
- Lead the sourcing efforts at the tier 2 level, including putting together RFQs and sourcing proposals and present them to upper management
- Manage tight deadlines while ensuring Tesla’s expectations on quality are always met and having the most significant impact on the bottom line
- Negotiate and execute pricing and general terms agreements and facilitate the engagement of legal teams
- Implement a supply chain strategy both short and long term for all commodities at the tier 2 level that supports Tesla’s expansion globally
- Develop a deep understanding of the commodity market drivers, cost structure, industry trends and competitive landscape
- Take responsibility of the commodity requirements and qualifications at the tier 2 level to influence sourcing decisions by actively engaging with the SIEs, design, materials and manufacturing engineering teams
- Oversee the capacity constraints of the selected suppliers and ensure business requirements are met regularly to keep a continuous and risk-free supply
- Continuously drive efforts for cost reduction opportunities and strategical improvements that would challenge the status quo
- Work as the key link between design engineering, Tier I, II, III GSMs, and planners by managing project timelines and ensuring actions to avoid any material risks are identified and taken in time
- Coordinate project start with a clear set of milestones, manufacturing needs, roadmaps on localization or introduction of parts to ensure success during launch and ramping
- Develop clear indicators and maintain project dashboards to keep track of progress and status and to communicate key action items to all relevant stakeholders
- Ensure that project milestones are met and potential delays and risks are avoided in time through a thorough due diligence of the systems set up to track the progress of projects
- Keep track of any changes of direction at the design, material or supply chain strategy level and ensure these are correctly communicated within all teams
- Provide management with information on project development and individual performance when requested
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s/MBA preferred
- Preferred 4+ years of hands-on GSM or Project Management experience in a fast paced and diverse environment
- Experience in stakeholders management in a cross functional setting
- Demonstrated ability to manage short deadlines and take decisions with limited information
- Excellent presentation skills and ability to work across multiple teams and their leadership
- A natural drive for negotiations
- Detail-oriented, self-starter, resourceful and able to manage shifting priorities across multiple projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Demonstrated ability to positively and effectively interact with internal and external customers/suppliers
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment and drive people towards common objective
- Excellent computer proficiencies in Word, Excel and Outlook (VBA and SQL are a plus)
