Job summary
Amazon is looking for an experienced Global Export/Import Manager to own the strategy and lead the transportation of IT assets across various programs. This is an exciting opportunity to make history by becoming a founding member of a team whose purpose is to solve complex challenges creating unprecedented customer experiences on a daily basis. This role will require working with multiple business teams across the company and around the world to figure out ambiguous trade supply chain solutions for new products/programs and existing operations.

Key job responsibilities
  • The primary function is to define and deliver global solutions that aid in the speed and scalability of OpsTech IT and our global operations partners.
  • Working daily with out Global Trade Services (GTS) partners to monitor all export/import shipments.
  • The Supply Chain team operates globally, the need to develop on demand shipping anywhere in the world for any part when needed is critical. You will own and manage the the pre-clearance of all parts from Rapid Asset Deployment (RAD) to the customer.
  • This job will require exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with business, operations, and tech stakeholders, while having the ability to work independently in a high pressure environment with all levels of leadership and exercise sound judgment where clear guidelines may not exist.
  • This job will require you to lead projects across multiple regions around the world providing on demand solutions to import and export globally.
  • The successful candidate will be proficient at solving complex logistics challenges and possess a bias to get things done and deliver results.
  • Managing Logistics Specialists, shipping and receiving clerks at multiple RAD locations.
  • Lead, Educate, and Develop team members
  • Daily communication with transportation providers and internal inventory stakeholders at Amazon.
  • Managing the transportation of Amazon IT assets (both inbound and outbound) including international shipments
  • Track/trace shipments to resolve issues that arise during transportation
  • Working with the customs team to ensure proper documentation is followed on all shipments
  • Providing proactive reporting to customers and key stakeholders
  • Developing transportation plans for new projects that arise
  • Innovating for step-change improvement in safety, quality, cost, and other KPI metrics
  • Collaborating with key operational experts across the company to lead, support, and influence new business initiatives.
  • Executing strategic business objectives while working with key internal stakeholders to improve the supply chain with the latest internal and external information.
  • Participating in Quarterly Business Review (QBR’s) and vendor score-carding to ensure adherence to cost and business objective
  • Ownership of all results within your region.
  • Engaging current transportation providers to strengthen the partnerships while identifying potential new provider.
This role will require domestic and international at least 30% travel.

A day in the life
You will provide the business with critical Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge and analyses on many topics, including import/export classification, valuation, licensing requirements, partner government agency (PGA) implications, cost-savings initiatives, etc., on a global scale. You will provide training, and create and implement scalable processes with business stakeholders. In executing this role, you will work directly with internal Legal, Logistics, Supply Chain, Tax, Transfer Pricing, Finance and Procurement teams, and a variety of external Company partners. You will also work closely with all of Amazon’s global trade teams.

Supply Chain responsibilities include forecasting, capital planning, risk management, sourcing, order processing, scheduling, warehousing, assembly, provisioning, transportation, repair, replacement and disposal of IT equipment.

  • Master's Degree
  • Licensed customs broker
  • Advanced compliance training, Masters or Law degree is a plus, but is not required
  • Prior trade experience with electronics products or in a related industry
  • Experience identifying, creating and driving strategic initiatives
  • ERP global trade experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in Supply Chain Logistics or Transportation.
  • 10+ years in Import/Export experience
  • Ability to clearly communicate data insights to others.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment focused on innovation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to influence teams outside of reporting structure.
  • Proven talent to lead a team spread out over various locations.
  • Thoroughly familiar with international shipping documents such as commercial invoice, packing list, air waybill, and export license; including consignee information, INCOTERMS, harmonized tariff code and nomenclature, country of origin, customs value, export classification, and license data.
  • Requires the ability to handle high volumes of e-mail and phone correspondence in an organized and timely manner.
  • Requires advanced Excel skills and ability to interpret data and other Microsoft Office products.

  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically with attention to detail.
